About this ebook

With their parents busy doing their weekly exercises, disabled Vaidehi and young Brett have nothing to do together, as their age-gap is too big to watch 90 Day Fiance or Paw Patrol. But when Vaidehi lets Brett in on a little secret, she doesn't expect the return of an old childhood friend to come with it. And when did he become so good looking? But with nostalgia suffocating her and her heart pounding, Vaidehi must choose to return back to her cousin or stay with her lover, and the choice is much harder than it seems.

    Chapter 1

    Vaidehi! Vaidehi! Vaidehi!

What? Vaidehi snapped, pulling her headphones off with an irritated sigh.

Her mother pursed her lips, cocking her hip to the side. A wet dishtowel was slung across her waist, her body drenched in perspiration. Why are you still sitting here? I thought I told you to get your socks so that I can help you put them on!

Ma! It's still 3:30! Vaidehi complained, glancing at her computer screen.

Vaidehi's mother rolled her eyes, having to deal with her fourteen-year-old daughter's drama every day. You know Chacha Prem and Chachi get here early. Besides, don't you think it would be best to get ready early? That way, you can sit and play whatever space game you want to play!

It's called Star-Crossed Love, number one, Vaidehi pointed out, her eyes narrowing into dark slits. Number two, I thought I asked you to get my socks?

Well, I can't get everything for you, can I? Her mother said. She gestured to the laundry basket sitting by Vaidehi's heel, the underclothes and socks all at her disposal. They're by your feet, Vaidehi! At least try and get them!

I can't bend down, remember? Vaidehi snarled. Irritation climbed up her throat, and she really wished that she had her blaster. At least she would have been able to knock some sense into the human standing in front of her.

Then get your grabber and do it, her mother replied curtly. You know you can do these things, Vaidehi. You only hold yourself back because you take advantage of your disability.

Do you think I asked to be a cripple? Vaidehi asked, her fists clenched. Her heart thrummed in her chest, and she took a deep breath to compose herself. She couldn't lose control, not yet, at least.

No. I know you didn't, but you have to at least try and get the things that you want on your own. Vaidehi's mother didn't even wait for her to reply. She gave Vaidehi a stern look, one that Vaidehi knew all too well, then closed the door to the upper floor of their house, her footsteps echoing from the stairwell.

Vaidehi groaned, slamming her head against the table in front of her. The Ensure drink by her books jumped slightly, and once she was sure her father would continue to photoshop pictures in his study room, she flexed her fingers, green light rolling from her fingertips. She smirked, watching as the wisps brought the pair of socks to her hands.

Beat that, grabber, she mumbled, smiling. She twirled the sock in her hand, examining the loose threads and intricate patterns. They didn't have clothes like this on her planet; it wasn't something she remembered particularly well. Then again, she hadn't seen Themystoria in over a century!

Vaidehi rolled her shoulders, flexing her sore muscles. She was used to her disability by now. Alien or human, her physical appearance never changed.

She touched her face, missing the gooey texture of her pink hair, of the ridges and bumps of the gills that once were striped across her cheeks. Her mission was simple, yet very time-consuming. She grimaced, the blue vases standing on the T.V table reminiscent of the flames she had once witnessed, of the flames
