About this ebook

A sassy siren. A stolen blade. A paranormal conspiracy. An unexpected romance.

The way I saw it, I had two choices: retrieve my pack's stolen blade or spend another night wishing I had. The plan was simple, the execution was an epic failure.

Before I knew what hit me, I was behind bars in Bethune. Home to the most savage inmates, disgusting food, and hot guards in body-hugging uniforms. If I could keep my head straight, I could do my time and go home. But no one ever accused me of following Rules.

Nothing could prepare me for what happened next.

I desperately need to escape. I have a plan, I know I can make it. Except there is one tiny problem-I'm head over heels in love with one of the guards. I can ask him to come with me but what if he refuses?

I need to make a decision and fast. But I'm not exactly in a place known for inspiring brilliant decisions.

Fans of Ilona Andrews will love the blend of urban fantasy and paranormal romance in ESCAPED BY MAGIC.

Escaped By Magic - R.L. Wilson

The clank of the jail bars locking in my face makes vomit rush to the surface of my throat. I take a hard swallow of vomit and my fears. Then fear takes over, squeezing my chest like a bear hug. Closing my eyes, I wish I was back home in the ocean. I never wanted to go back there as much as I do now.

Bethune is the home of the most savage female prisoners in Miami. I’m not cut out for this shit. I didn’t actually commit the crime. Sure, I was in the act.

I better put my big girl panties on now, because there is a big girl in the top bunk with a mean snarl. I don’t want any problems. Just want out of this hellhole. I feel suffocated, like a siren out of water. She better stay out of my way. Or I will begin my path of destruction, starting with her.

I pivot around and my fiery gaze meets her pudgy face. She has a sneer of disgust with her nose turned in the air. I tell you, humans judge before they see your face well. And I guess that rubbed off on me. Before my feet touched the gravel in Miami, I’d heard bad things about humans. Like them stealing our artifact all those years ago. I didn’t judge everyone back then. Now it’s second nature. I’ve become one of them.

I walk over to the bunk bed. Glaring at the thin mattress and slim pillow made my back ache. They expect me to lie on a steel bench with a slim cushion? I let out a huff of frustration as I wipe the sweat from my forehead. It’s hot. No one can be comfortable in this blazing heat. There is a small fan circulating hot air around this tiny cell.

Dreading my bottom touching the steel bed, I brace myself. I ease my way to a sitting position, ignoring the tremble of my hands. I’d never imagined that I would get caught. Although I watched it on television, nothing can prepare you for prison.

Tori escaped the cops. I don’t think she got the blade, though. I took the brunt of the punishment. She has to find an escape route for me.

Where you from, fresh meat? the deep voice from the top bunk questions.

Her voice is smoky and rough for a female. She must take hormones.

    Miami, and you?

She swings her crusty feet across the bed before she hops down. Liar. You’re not from Miami. You have an accent. She plops down to the floor and I get a strong fire scent. Like the scent of burning wood.

I force myself to stand, my feet wobbling underneath me. I shoot a stare her way. She doesn’t know me.

I’m Lashae, but everyone calls me Queen. She extends her hand.

I’m already grumpy because I have to wear this tight-ass orange jumpsuit. It’s uncomfortable and rubbing against my inner thighs. And she has the nerve to be getting jazzy with me. Today is not the
