About this ebook
The Qumru are a peaceful alien race. They are advanced spacefaring people who never interfere with other alien races and try to avoid hostile races such as the Yoyka. For the past two centuries the two races have left each other alone in peace. This changed suddenly when the Yoyka attacked Qum without warning with a new nanotech terror weapon.
The weapon was made of semi-intelligent nanomachines that are contagious upon contact. The nanomachines are designed to only attack a specific race based on their genome DNA. The nanomachines replicate inside the body, invade the mind and can be controlled over quantum transmission links (QTL). Once infected, the person becomes highly infectious and the nanomachines spread rapidly by touch or by breathing the air around them.
The Yoyka use the nanomachine weapon to enslave other races for the purpose of providing materials and resources for building Yoyka warships, military forces and expanding the Yoykan Empire. The Yoyka plan to attack, capture and enslave all alien races within the galaxy if not stopped.
The Qumru have two advantages the Yoyka are not fully aware of. First, the Qumru created sentient androids for providing security, military functions and other services for the people of Qum. They live on a separate planet called Holtu thirty light years away. Second, they possess an advanced scientific achievement called Onutu which can prolong their lives. These two advantages will decide the outcome of the devastating war with the Yoykan Empire.
This is a Novella Prequel story that introduces several main characters in the Nanomachine War Series trilogy. Book 1 continues the saga of the first Qumru starship encounter with humans on Mars. Books 2 and 3 culminate in a space war with the Yoykan Empire to settle the question of whether or not the Yoyka will enslave the peoples of Qum, Holtu and Earth.

Mars
The Tharsis Montes loomed ahead through the front windows of the Mars shuttlecraft as Doug dipped to one side preparing to land at a nearby landing strip near the base of one of the three large shield volcanoes that filled the view in front of him. Shield volcanoes were composed of old fluid lava flows that created large sheets of lava around the base of volcanoes, so large in fact that each of these three volcanoes were enormous compared to volcanoes on Earth.
Douglas Martin was piloting the shuttlecraft with his wife, Doctor Janice Martin, sitting beside him in the copilot seat. The view was stunning with the three volcanoes jutting up out of the Mars landscape like sentries in a desolate land. An even bigger volcano, Olympus Mons, could be seen in the distance to the northwest. They had circled around the tallest of the three volcanoes and planned to land on the southwestern side as their final destination.
The Tharsis Montes were located in the Tharsis region of Mars. These three large volcanoes sat in a row north to south and were named Ascraeus Mons, Pavonis Mons and Arsia Mons, each with approximate diameters of 475 km (295 mi), 375 km (233 mi) and 435 km (270 mi) respectively. Ascraeus Mons was the tallest with a summit elevation of over 18 km (59,000 ft) or 15 km (49,000 ft) base-to-peak. The largest volcano on Earth in Hawaii is about 120 km (75 mi) across and stands 9 km (30,000 ft) above the ocean floor.
The Tharsis Montes volcanoes lie near the Mars equator, along a vast volcanic plateau called the Tharsis region or Tharsis bulge. The Tharsis region is thousands of kilometers across. Olympus Mons, the tallest known mountain in the Solar System is 100 times larger than any volcano on Earth. It was located about 1,200 km (750 mi) northwest of the Tharsis Montes, at the edge of the Tharsis region. Tharsis bulge is approximately 1200 km from the Valles Marineris canyon where Doug and Jan live in Haffen city. This trip was planned a month ago as part of Jan’s scientific expedition to look for new life forms on Mars.
We’re almost there, Jan,
Doug said as he guided the shuttlecraft down to the surface. His destination was a flat piece of ground nearest the northern most volcano, Ascraeus Mons, which was the largest of the three. Doug pulled up the nose as the shuttlecraft hoovered momentarily and then settled gently to the ground. As they waited for the dust to settle, Doug shut down the engine and checked conditions outside.
It’s nearly ten degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). Good day to explore.
It’ll be much colder as we climb, Doug. Dress warm,
Jan added for caution. She knew Doug liked to take more risks than she and they were alone on this outing. The nearest town with humans was closer to Olympus Mons where Doug had people who worked for him. If they got into trouble, it would take almost two hours for anyone to reach them. It paid to be extra cautious on these trips.
Doug helped Jan check her suit and helmet. Janice was 39 years old. She was five feet, six inches tall with short reddish brown hair, neatly trimmed around her ears. Her
