    Chapter 1

The honorable Judge Lisa Thomas looks at the jury foreman as he stands up.

    Do you have a verdict?

    Yes, we do your honor.

    Well let's hear it.

The jury finds defendant Nickolas Machado, guilty of all counts.

Yelling and screaming are heard throughout the courtroom.

Bam! Bam! Bam! The judge slams down her gravel.

Order in the court, order in the court, everyone please be quiet.

The judge is upset and looks at the juryman.

Jury foreman, would you please finish reading off the verdict slip? the nervous foreman shakes his head in agreement.

Yes, your honor, we the jury find the defendant Nickolas Machado guilty of count one racketeering, guilty of count two money laundering, and guilty of count three, being a menace to the city of New York.

After the jury foreman finishes reading off the verdict he locks eyes with the judge.

Thank you, foreman, you may be seated.

Judge Thomas, like all judges, certain cases irk them the most. The case that Judge Thomas had to reside over with Mr. Machado irks her the most. Like her parents, as well as Mr. Machado, her grandparents immigrated from Italy to New York after Mussolini took over Italy making Italy a fascist state.

Her grandfather as well as her father had it hard because they didn't belong to any gang or members of organized crime. To her, they were bullies taking advantage of good, hard-working citizens. She labeled Mr. Machado the same way… A Bully! Many times, her father and grandfather would be up for a promotion at one of the factories they worked in, at the garment district downtown Manhattan. They would be put on the back burner because they were not plugged in with the people who ran the show or even looked to do any overtime.

Every so often they would get to do overtime and that's only because someone was sick or it was snowing, cold, raining cats and dogs, or just really bad weather. Then they might let them get some overtime. She hated these types of people as a child growing up and anytime she had these types of people in her courtroom she would make it her business to nail them to the cross, especially if they are Italian. She felt that the bad Italians made all Italians look bad.

The defendant's family is in an uproar because Nickolas was found guilty. Lucas Stephens is smiling. Your honor, I'm recommending that Mr. Machado get life in prison without the possibility of parole. Chief District Attorney Lucas said.

Someone from inside the courtroom yelled out He didn't kill nobody!

The D.A. yells out "Your honor for the charges of racketeering, money laundering, and being a menace to this city, I think life is the least sentence Mr. Machado deserves. The courtroom erupts even more.

Bam! Bam! Bam! Judge Thomas slams her gravel down even harder.

I said there will be order in the court and no more outbursts. I'm scheduling sentencing one month from today, and my decision will be rendered. The bailiff takes the prisoner back to Rikers Island to await sentencing. This court is now adjourned. '' Judge Thomas slams her gravel down one time while putting papers in her folder. The bailiff shakes his head in agreement yes your honor". As the bailiff and four other officers take Nickolas away there is yelling and screaming in the courtroom of a wrong deal Nickolas received.

    Chapter 2

Outside the courtroom on the court steps at 100 Center Street in downtown Manhattan, news anchors are questioning Lucas Stephens on his victory of finding Nickolas Machado guilty in court today. Spectators watch as Lucas gives his statement. As photographers take snapshots of him. District Attorney Lucas, how do you feel about your victory today?

Nickolas Machado was a guy we needed to get off the streets today, he was a menace to all of New York City. It's scum like that, that makes this city look bad. I'm pushing for life, but I wish we could push the death sentence and just get rid of him. All Nickolas did was take advantage of people, especially the good people of New York City. My next goal is to chase down the rest of his cohorts, then bring them to justice so they all can rot away in prison and give Nickolas company while he is serving a life sentence!

Another news anchorwoman asks a question: Do you think Mr. Machado’s attorney will appeal today's verdict? Lucas nods his head in agreement.

I'm sure he will, but I’m not so worried about that, for now, we have so much dirt on Mr. Machado he will not win any appeal in the state of New York.

Another anchorman asks a question one question, was Mr. Machado that bad as the newspaper read? D.A. Lucas Stephens shakes his head up and down in agreement.

Yes, yes, he was, and even worse. With his strong-arm tactics and acts of violence toward people, not only would he push his aggressive behavior towards other criminals in the illegal world, but also towards everyday legal citizens like you and me, to push his illegal agenda of havoc.

Another reporter tries to ask D.A. Lucas questions, but he cuts him off.

I'm sorry, but I have to go home to my wife and daughter who are awaiting me. I'm tired, I've been up all night preparing for this case and I haven't received any sleep. Well if you would excuse me and take care, and goodbye.

As he waves his hand goodbye, reporters still try to ask him another question as reporters are still taking pictures all around.

    Chapter 3

Today would be a well-earned and highly warranted day of vacation for Lucas, who had decided that as soon as he had tried his most recent case, his victory celebration would include his wife, Jackie, the five-foot-nine, 130-pound, redheaded, olive-skinned Georgia peach who looked like she could have been a Victoria's Secret model.

You can always smell the sweet aroma of the perfume that she wore, Chanel no. 5. The smile that she carried around was priceless. It was this smile that caught Lucas's eye when he first met her and swept her off her feet in her early twenties.

They would be joined by their six-year-old daughter, Sandra, who other than her freckles, curly blond hair, and her braces were the spitting image of her mother, and they would partake in this beautiful sunny day and a swim at Coney Island Beach, their destination.

They had taken their time making their way down to the beach, allowing Sandra to enjoy the pleasantries the boardwalk had to offer. By the time they reached the beach, Sandra was face first into her stick of cotton candy, with a box of cracker jacks on hand.

It was a balmy, yet breezy ninety-two-degree morning, the beach not too populated, but will be on its way. The weather is beautiful, the sky clear, those present were indulging in the joys of the beach, flying kites, playing Frisbee, playing with their lovers and friends, their kids, some even bringing their work to the beach on their laptops, some kids are viewing their laptops.

While Jackie laid out their blankets onto the warm sand, setting up an area on the beach with their picnic basket, carrying bag, and ice chest, Sandra continued to devour her cotton candy, as Lucas removed his clothes down to only his Swatch watch, goggles, and blue Tommy Boy swimming shorts. The smell of the crisp, fresh ocean providing his adrenaline rush. Before he bolted for the water, he waved to his family.

Such was the quest of Lucas Stephens, who had enjoyed swimming here with his friend since he was a kid. The blond-haired, blue-eyed man with the crew cut was now the most powerful chief district attorney for Manhattan. At 6’2, 190 lbs., he maintained a G.Q. look about himself.

I will be right back, he said, as his wife and daughter looked on.

    Okay, they both said.

As he swam out into the ocean about ninety yards, his wife and daughter looked on from the beach. Oooh, look, mommy, look at daddy swimming out there! Sandra was excited to see her father swimming, her excitement fueled by the sugar rush from the cotton candy.

Yeah baby, daddy is out there, huh?

He’s a good swimmer, he trained while he was back in high school. Jackie continued to set out the contents from the picnic basket. Jackie has her hair in a ponytail style, joyfully looking at her daughter.

I want to swim like daddy when I get older. Sandra was cheesing at her mother, exposing her missing two front teeth with her wide smile. Jackie and Sandra have matching red short sets and white sandals.

    Chapter 4

Lucas had swum out about 200 hundred yards into the deep blue when he decided to turn back toward the beach. He liked swimming in this weather; the temperature of the water is perfect, he thought. His flow was smooth; he stroked, then breathed, stroked then breathed, cycling his arm, thrusting powerfully as he pedaled his feet. Cycle, stroke, breathe; cycle, stroke, breathe.

Suddenly, he lost control, he was out of air.

He was descending downward fast. Air, he needed air, he thought. He couldn’t hold his breath any longer.

    Chapter 5

Lucas! Lucas! Lucas! Jackie yelled at the top of her voice toward the ocean. Her emerald pupils were shrinking every time she yelled. Daddy! Daddy! Sandra yelled at the ocean. Searching, they both gazed intently toward where Lucas was supposed to be, ...Sandra looked at her mother worried, with her lips poked out, eyes filled with tears, ready to cry. Mommy, where is Daddy? With a puzzled face, Jackie shook her head. I don’t know baby, Jackie yelled out again, wading further into the shallow water 2 feet screaming.

    Chapter 6

    A.B.C. NEWS ABOUT LUCAS DROWNING

On a nice sunny day, pedestrians are walking down the street caring about their day. Some people stop by a department store’s glass window that shows the TV coverage of Lucas Stephens. As the anchorwoman is talking, people try to make out what she is saying by looking at all the photo clips that are being displayed. Some people who work in the department store who are standing close by can hear the T.V., expressing the voice of anchorwoman Amanda Brown, crystal clear.

Manhattan Chief District Attorney Lucas Stephens drowned today swimming at Coney Island Beach.... He was the head prosecutor in the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse at 100 Center Street, for 15 years. After Amanda Brown finishes, she looks at her anchor assistant, Mark Fuller to continue.

"On another note, one of the other Assistant District Attorney’s Sharron Banks ran against him in a runoff for the head District Attorney’s Office seat in Manhattan. Polls show Sharron Banks has only 27% of the vote and Lucas Stephens with 73% of the vote.

    Winning by a landslide.

Nobody else would run against Mr. Stephens because they wouldn’t think that they would win. ` ` `. Amanda took the spotlight back. Sharron Banks has won the Manhattan District Attorney seat by default. Lucas Stephens leaves behind his wife Jackie and six-year-old daughter Sandra. Mr. Stephens
