    Author’s Note

This story takes place about thirty years before the start of the events in CHILD OF THE GHOSTS.

Readers commonly ask me if they need to read the short stories in addition to the main GHOSTS novel series. The answer is no – these short stories are along the lines of side quests or maybe the bonus scenes from a DVD, side stories taking place in the larger setting of the GHOSTS. You can find the complete reading order for the GHOSTS novel series at the end of this ebook.

An Ulkaari winter unleashed both bitter cold and furious blizzards, and travelers desperate enough to brave the roads during a winter storm tended not to be seen again, disoriented by the snow and slain
