    A very enjoyable read with polished writing and intriguing worldbuilding that doesn't bog down the narrative but delivers on its intended themes nevertheless. A sure recommended read!

I dentification. Glowing blue letters reflected off the thin officer’s eyes, which were glued to his tablet.

008, I answered. The officer shot me a stiff glance. The other men around the room shuffled, their every motion echoing off the sterile walls.

Single digits, he said. I nodded.

You look like him. The man’s voice didn’t waver. I ran my fingertips along my uniform’s rough hem.

Of course I do, I replied.

And you were at the briefing session? the man asked. I stood on my toes, looking down at the glass-like tablet’s bright blue letters.

This is all on your computer, I said. Why are you asking me? The man shot me a sharp glance, and my heels met the steel floor.

Protocol, the man replied. I pressed my arms to my sides, as was required.

Of course, I said.

This way. The man turned away from me before continuing to a pair of steel double doors. I heard them lock behind me as we made our way down a white hallway that never seemed to end. To my left were windows stretching from floor to ceiling, and beyond them I saw the compound’s rings spinning like halos, bright against the star-speckled vastness of space.

008, a woman’s voice called out. The man stood beside another set of steel doors, eyes still glued to his tablet. Standing in the open doorway was a woman, dressed in the same white as the walls and floors. She smiled, but not with her eyes.

Come on in, she said. I shot one last glance at the man before following her through the doors, which shined iridescent in the light. Nanotech, I noted. Self cleaning. Not even finger oils stuck to them.
