H appy Galentine’s Day, friendo! Arthur’s familiar baritone cheered through her phone.

Hey, friend! Celia echoed back with a smile. If a person smiled while talking, even if they weren’t happy, they would sound like they were happy.

She tried to distract herself from Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day by immersing herself in things that brought her joy. Celia was sure her couch’s cushion had a permanent impression of her ass. She was also sure her leggings were now grafted to her skin and she’d be okay with that. There was no reason for her to get up today.

She could drink her iced coffee, order her favorite food and watch a kaiju movie to make the world go away while lounging on her couch until the weekend was over. Then could get on with the new week as if the day never came. Right now, though she’d scroll through social media and lose a couple of hours.

Who didn’t love short videos of puppies being adorable to kick up the dopamine levels? Then there were the thirst traps that made you wish you were young and aggressive enough to catch one. She scrolled through the timeline of videos an unexpected sight came onto the screen.

There was one of her best friends, shirtless, on screen. Every inch of his sculpted torso and muscular arms played seductively under blue and red lights. His brown hair was styled in his customary bump at the front like he’d run his fingers through his hair too often.

His beard was neatly groomed and hit just above his collar bone. Memories of when he was growing it out and she would scratch under his chin lingered in her mind. The pure enjoyment he exuded from the act made her chest spread with warmth. She knew every plane of his face and the crinkle at the corner of his eyes when he’d laugh or frown.

From the shoulders down was another story.

His naked torso was defined, his chest dusted with enough hair that made you want to pet him. She clenched a fist to stop from reacting to the way the light shone on his skin. He was extremely attractive. He knew it and wasn’t ashamed of it. She was proud of him for embracing his body.

Did he think that she would think less of him if he told her? Should she even tell him that she found it? Maybe she’d forget she even found it and act surprised if he told her. She could drink enough booze to erase the sight from her mind and everything would be fine.

The plan to get drunk to forget her friend’s photo quickly failed when the image of Arthur’s bare chest flashed in her mind and she had to stop herself from sighing. Then, of course, a video call popped through. She knew exactly why he was calling her, to check on his thorn-back older friend who was alone. She hoped he wouldn’t tell her about the date he had lined up for the weekend that way she could pretend that he was also single right now.

Whatcha doing? he sing-songed. She could hear the grin in his voice.

Watching Godzilla vs. King Gidora, she answered with a grin. What are you doing?
