About this ebook
My old skipper once told me to always expect the unexpected. I should have listened to him . . .
When a plane crash leaves Charlie Bassett rested from the RAF, he receives unexpected orders - to locate the elusive, pregnant Grace Baker and bring her home.
But Grace, who has been following the armed forces across Europe, clearly does not want to be found, and despite Charlie's personal stake in it, this bizarre and challenging mission is still one he would rather avoid.
Nevertheless, Charlie finds himself journeying to France in a car named Kate, with a dubious, eccentric Army Major and his loyal Sergeant - two men who are evidently going about mysterious duties of their own.
And as Charlie moves slowly towards the front-line on this exhilarating road trip, so too does he draw closer to the woman he once loved and lost . . .

Reviews for Charlie's War
7 ratings2 reviews
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I met Charlie in "Tuesday's War" and enjoyed his company and that stayed true in Charlie's War. Familiar characters, different battles...he's on the ground in Europe this time. The story is written in Charlie's voice and he's easy to listen to.That generation was having a lot more casual sex than our grandparents let on.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Despite reference to characters and events in its predecessor, thisbook can be read without first reading Tuesday's War. It's astrange book in some ways, dealing with the chaos in the last days ofthe war in Europe. The field is ripe for opportunists of all types(armies, gangs and individuals). Fiddimore takes quite a cynicalapproach about the vested interests not only of black marketeers but ofall those with some power to wield. He again pays close attention toperiod slang. Not quite as good as the first book, but still veryreadable indeed.
