Edith France - An Extraordinary Woman - Ron Taylor
Edith France - An Extraordinary Woman
This is the story of the life and times of Edith France, an extraordinary woman. Like all extraordinary women, she would have said that she was an ordinary woman. When you read of her life and legacy you will surely agree that she truly was; An Extraordinary Woman.
Her life and legacy were shaped by two world wars and her enormous capacity for love. It is as true an account of her life as possible of a private person who lived in the present and future spending little time recalling her past to others. A woman who sought justice for all and dedicated her skills and energies towards protecting, inspiring and encouraging her family. Those she loved.

Chapter One July 1921 Salford
Edith France was born on the 5th July 1921, to Ellen and William France, in Salford in the North West of England. She was to join her elder sister, also named Ellen, in the France family rented room in the overcrowded damp flats overlooking a polluted and smelly canal. It has to be said that Salford in the nineteen twenties was an unfortunate place to enter this world.
Salford was a very depressed and deprived place then. A mill town, surrounded by mill towns, those mills, at one time busy and a central cog of the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th Centuries were now struggling for survival.
