    Upon hearing her alarm blare loudly as she slept, the snoring girl awoke with a fright and stumbled to uncover herself from the warm nest of blankets that held her captive over the cool spring night. She leapt from the bed and stormed into her tiny and cluttered bathroom within her bedroom, only to return and silence the alarm that awoke her so forcefully in the first place. She quickly brushed her teeth, brushed her hair, and applied a preliminary coat of make-up to the right side of her face before she realized she forgot to take her daily shower. With a disgruntled and prolonged sigh, she took one and destroyed all of her previous efforts to get ready.  

     While she raced about, fixing herself with make-up and clothes, the cameraphone attached to her desktop on the other side of her room began to ring. Wearing a wet green shirt with her hair still sopping wet, she rushed over to her desk and answered the call from her mother by saying hello. It took a few seconds for the girl’s mother to reply, though the camera portion of the call was lacking because the girl could only see static in the video screen. With the dialogue being done over speakerphone capabilities, the girl returned to her task of getting ready for the day.  

    Honey, are you there? said an older woman. I can’t see you. Can you see me?  

    No, I can’t see you, said the girl with a vocal tone lower than most other girls she knew. The camera phones never work, mom, she muttered to herself.  

    Well, my alarm rang so I wanted to make sure you were up, too. Are you getting ready for your test? You better be getting ready for your test. Frank? Frank! Tell her she has to get ready for her test!  

    An older man with a gruff, rumbling voice took over the call and briefly said, Listen to your mother and study for your test, for the love of god!  

    With a bobby pin in her mouth, she replied, "I got it, dad, but I keep telling
