    Introduction

    Chickens are inquisitive and at times, odd little creatures.  Their antics often amuse their caregivers as well as reward with their eggs.  I have raised chickens for several years and have learned a few things about chickens, chicken care, and their offspring.  The information found in this book is designed to provide you with a starting place for starting your own flock or adding to information you already have.

    Where to Start

    Before you start your flock, there are a few things to consider such as; space, breed, purpose, etc.  Some chickens are better layers, meat producers, or just look pretty.  You will need to determine what your purpose is for wanting chickens.  Once your purpose is selected you should research the breed you want in relation to the amount of room you have. 

    If you want eggs to just feed your family, you may only need a handful of chickens, 3 or 4.  Unless you use eggs every day or are a prolific baker,
