About this ebook

Mandy is a barely legal girl caught in a mix of betrayal and confusion. Naïve and a bit too trusting, Mandy let a boy sexually experiment with her. Now, this innocent babysitter can’t move beyond the things they did together. Confiding her secret to Bonie’s buddies only torments Mandy further. In this tale of teen angst and betrayal Mandy seeks to reconnect with her artistic talent and self-expression. Can her neighbor help Mandy move on to accept the things she’s done?

Bonie, short for Boniface Edmund McCallister, opened the screen door on the back porch of the three-bedroom house and held it until it closed quietly. He turned to the door that opened into the dining room and stopped.

‘I’m sure I closed that door when I left.’ he thought to himself. ‘Well, guess not.’ He pulled off the canvas walking shoes and left them just inside the doorway, went through the dining room down the hall, intending to stop at the bathroom.

His daughter’s bedroom door was open.

He blinked, walked back through the hallway to the living room and looked out the window. No cars in the driveway.

Puzzled and walking quietly without his shoes, he slowly approached the door to the bedroom; a door he knew had been closed when he left.

There, in the middle of the king-sized bed sat a young dark haired girl wearing glasses. Her legs were apart and on each side was a porcelain Piggy Bank, one pink, and one blue. Between the girl’s bare legs was a pile of dollar bills and quarters. She was wearing ragged cut-off jeans, a blue tank top that exposed her midsection and she was focused on counting the money before her.

Bonie watched for a moment and then noisily cleared his throat.

She jerked her head up, her hands flew to her mouth and her eyes were wide and terrified, Oh, shit! What are you doing here?

He stepped into the room and put his hands on his hips, "Better question is, what are you doing here? I’ve seen you before. You usually carry a sketchpad around with you. Who are you? Why are you here? What are you doing?"

She bowed her head and put both hands on her face, Oh God, what am I doing? What have I done? Oh, please, don’t call the Base Police. I’m sorry, I really am. Please!

Bonie leaned back against a dresser a few feet away from the bed, Are you taking money? Did you break in here to steal? What’s going on?

She looked up, I didn’t break in, the door was open and, ah, well, I haven’t stolen anything, it’s all right here.

"Does my daughter know you are here?
