For my dad, who used to say,

I think you should put all your poems in a book.

    So I did.

    I love you Dad.

    I miss you.

    Love

    earthed

    she has lips, red

like the sun has enflamed them

    with the color of life

    waiting for him to kiss

    and he does

    he kisses her like

    she is an ocean for

him to drink and live on

    and she presses into him

    like he is the earth

for her to plant herself in

    together

    they are rooted

    drinking and living

    from each other

    Pronunciation

    I like the way

    he says my name

    the way it rolls

    off his tongue

    like it’s lived

    inside him forever
