Conclusion
To my Wife & Family & Friends: You have all encouraged my writing. This is the fruit of that labor and of your encouragement for me to do so. Your contributions of faith, time, materials, and support is greatly appreciated. Especially to my Wife who endured the many calls to assist in the editorial process and for my endless questions.

The Maxwells were unable to have children of their own. And as the years unfolded they felt that becoming foster parents to many children was the best thing they could do to share their good fortune and contribute back to a town that was so good to them. Thus many of the rooms in their home were turned into bedrooms and playrooms for the foster children. The dining room was certainly large enough for a family of their size, which at one time included twelve children, three Orthodox nuns, as well as the housekeeping and ground keeping staff who kept their mansion in top condition.
Sister Mary Pat was the favorite of the three nuns with the children. She was also the one responsible in assisting the Maxwell’s with the children’s care. By the time they made the decision to be foster parents they were older and the assistance from Mary Pat and the other nuns from their church was of great help to them.
As orphanages went out of favor in place of the foster care system in the 1950’s and 60’s in America, the Maxwells felt that they wanted to share their good fortune with the less fortunate. Especially with some of the children of Woodcreek who were left without parents due to various circumstances in their lives. They became foster parents to these twelve children who were fortunate indeed to come to live their home.
Their home was located on the choicest spot in town. It was very well built, and provided plenty of rooms for classes as well as enough land area for outside activities for the children.
It was the favored spot in town where many activities were sponsored by the Maxwells for the benefit of not only their foster children but for all of the children of Woodcreek and their parents.
The foster children that spent some of their youth with the Maxwells stayed in touch with each other and most returned to Woodcreek after their schooling to live out their lives in the town that had a certain draw back to its idyllic surroundings.
Good families in town eventually adopted all of the children. The Maxwell mansion was eventually willed to the town, which used it first as a middle school before it became a museum after the demise of the Maxwells.
This story is about two of the girls who came to live with the Maxwells at a very young age. With their story we can learn about God’s love by the examples of their own lives.
Chapter One
The Beginning
e9781257714780_fig001.jpgTo the world outside it was just another quiet and still winter night in the small town of Woodcreek. Inside the Maxwells home, which was located on Spruce Street and at the top of the hill overlooking Lake George, it was also very quiet.
It may have been a little more peaceful this night due to the fresh newly fallen snow which always seemed to add a blanket of muffled quiet to both the town outside as well as to the inside of the home.
A few of the Nuns of St. Nicholas Orthodox monastery came to stay with the Maxwells as they grew older and assisted them as well as with the care of the children.
They had cleaned up the toys and the rooms clutter for this particular day and had just gone to bed.
As the last light was turned off the serenity and sense of security could be felt. Only the occasional crackle and pop of
