    About the Author

    Spring

    54105.png

    Spring fills the earth with yellow, green, and blue.

    Everywhere can be seen signs of renew:

    Honeybees buzzing as they collect to and fro;

    From blooming flower to flower they go.

    Rains are coming to fill the ponds and streams,

    Soft breezes blowing, time for dreams.

    We sit on our porches in rockers and take life slow;

    Children play games in the street below.

    Gardens bloom, and we drink lemonade.

    The price of winter has long since been paid.

    Now it’s golden and sunny and bright;

    Soon the sounds of crickets will fill the night.

    Stars will fall in our open windows as we sleep,

    Lighting our memories of the days we keep.

    Everything is possible, and all is new in joy,

    Rebirth, hope, and new energies to employ.

    Flycatcher

    54110.png

    Fluttering brown on wings of air,

    She doesn’t seem to mind me here.

    Flycatcher sings her song: "sree-pee!"

    Curiously, she moves about me,

    A flash of agility indiscernible to the eye,

    Perched proudly on trellis with a butterfly.

    In her beak she now displays her prize,

    Captured insect below her dark eyes

    Still fluttering with its own wings—

    Food for her young, she soon brings.

    Orange and black her prey:

    There will be a feast today.

    Quite the silly display she makes

    Before to the air she takes.

    To her nest there squeaks a tiny one—

    Baby flycatcher, visible in the sun.

    Beak so small and very black,

    Nested smartly to fend from attack:

    A moment here, the next gone,

    Calling sree-pee, protecting her newborn.

    Natural life in full motion,

    Fluttering brown wings of commotion.

    54404.jpg

    We Must Flow

    54114.png

    Let us flow like a river,

    For that is the key

    To get by the stones,

    To nourish the tree—

    The tree of many branches,

    Reaching to possibilities.

    O, wonderful moment,

    Filled with life’s mysteries—

    Nothing blocks path and way.

    We are truly fluid and set free.

    O, tangled web of reaching arms,

    You point to directions simply

    As the water finds its way

    In life’s puzzled uncertainty.

    The living tree lends guide today,

    Offering each of us a journey.

    54442.jpg

    Observe

    54116.png

    Golden branches sheen,

    Stamen of sea green,

    Pollen for the bees.

    Cool, quick breeze,

    Shedding petals:

    Dandelions, stinging nettles,

    Cherry blossom trees.

    Life after the freeze;

    Cloudy skies high,

    Seagulls float by.

    Block the sunlight—

    Still, all is bright.

    Trees darken patches;

    A robin egg hatches.

    Green and brown earth

    Smell of grass and dirt.

    Birds sing and flirt.

    Time for a T-shirt.

    Time to plant the flowers,

    April and May showers;

    Earthworms rise,

    Bird’s surprise.

    Mother bird in nest

    Feeds as her babies rest.

    Motorcycles ride,

    Many people outside

    Busy with overdue things,

    Kept by winter’s offerings.

    No longer concealed,

    Wormwood now revealed.

    Ants build a tall nest;

    They never seem to rest.

    Their mounds crest.

    Bustling here and there,

    They rush to repair.

    Blessed signs of life everywhere:

    Observations as I visit here.

    Falling Stars

    54119.png

    In the evening, stars fall inside my open window,

    Tiny dancing maidens with promise,

    Sprinkling me with wishes come true.

    Like moonlight bits, so very fine;

    As they settle upon my cool flesh, they whisper.

    Like gentle raindrops in my mind,

    Come in the morning’s light to deliver

    An earthen-surfaced mirror of glass,

    Covering all in folly and fancies to behold,

    Calming scents of new and old.

    Cotton puffs drift in the skies and converge;

    A spray of sun gives my eyes rainbows,

    Each color more precious than gold,

    Reaching to the ends of the earth’s whole,

    Gathering everyone under one umbrella.

    Gentle winds brush my
