      Dedication

      I dedicate this book to Dr. Jerry Ball—poet, actor, dramatist and instructor of philosophy, humanities and religion.

      I first met Jerry in a class where he introduced us to the world of opera. He encouraged me to join his poetry class, promising that he would guide me to write in this new genre. I was very skeptical and nervous, but at that moment I entered a wonderland of inspiration from which, as Jerry would say, there is no escape. He has truly been my writing guru.

      Dr. Ball has received many awards, including three grand prizes for haiku awarded by the Yuki Teikei Haiku Society of Canada and the United States. He has published several books of verse and haiku, and co-edited the San Francisco Haiku Anthology.
