IN THE SHADOWS
PROLOGUE
It is nine AM and General King wearing his sharp Army Blues, walks down a long hallway; very much like any other cookie-cutter office building; very boring to the eye. The dated tile floors are a very clean and shinny, newly waxed from the night before. King passes other Military personnel as he walks, some look at him a little strangely; like they know something is going on; like they want to say something to him but don’t. A Commander stops King just outside the General’s office,
General, you are the talk of the Pentagon…everyone knows that you signed up for a promotion last week, how was the test evaluation?
asked the Commander.
The Commander and King go along ways back, they have been friends and colleagues for many years,
It was not what I thought it was going to be like… it was a bit odd.
explained King.
Odd? What do you mean?
questioned the Commander. The physical tests and requirements were fine... Normal...but the rest of the week was all psychological testing; but not your normal run-of-the-mill testing; it was the deepest and most comprehensive testing I have ever take for an evaluation.
stated King.
That does sound a bit odd.
replied the Commander.
No Steve, you don’t understand; the types of questions they asked were very dark… have you ever been frightened by a question?
asked King.
Frightened?
replied the Commander with a strange look on his face.
No, what do you mean frightened?
asked the Commander.
I can’t fully explain it… first the questioning seemed normal enough, no problems there for the first six hours; but then the questioning got stranger and stranger; it was like hinting to another subject; like saying something without saying it... subliminal.
said King in an uneasy manner.
Well what were some of the questions?
asked the Commander.
Steve… that’s the other odd thing… I can’t fully remember, not even ONE of the questions.
said King as he was a little distressed.
WHAT? You seriously can’t remember even ONE of the questions?
said the Commander in disbelief.
I’m not kidding… So, I really don’t know how I made out in the examination, I just have this really over powering feeling of emptiness… sadness… darkness… and fear. I think the questions were designed to be forgotten, to be unknown. This feeling inside of me Steve… I don’t know what it is… but it won’t go away and it’s terrifying.
explained King.
The Commander now staring at King with a loss for words… the Commander doesn’t know what to say next, and just looked into Kings eye‘s.
All I know is that the examination was highly classified… but why?, It was just for a promotion. Well, I will see you later Steve... if I remember anything I will let you know.
stated King as he walked into his office.
Ok, well I hope you feel better, let me know.
replied the Commander and Kings door shut behind him, he walked over to his desk and sat down.
King sat for a moment looking at his desk trying to clear his head. King looked up and what he seen took his breath away… and then he yelled,
WHAT THE FUCK!
Dear General:
This document contains future events leading to current events of knowledge on a need to know basis….and you need to know. If you are holding this document, you are above all levels of secrecy and oaths. What we know and what we think we know are two very different things. Why are we alive? What is our purpose? What is the meaning of life?...
Every day we get up, shower, get dressed, brush our teeth, comb our hair, drive to work, drive home from work, make supper, do an activity, go to bed, and repeat. Life seems simple… and then we die, but then what happens?
The questions we ask are timeless… and yet we have no answers. We must all be careful about the questions we ask… because the answers that we find… might be something we would never want to hear.
For instance, hundreds of thousands of people go missing every year and are never to return… Without a trace… People eventually lose hope… Stop asking questions and then just accept it. Where are they? …
Or another example, how are our taxes purposed?... Where does all that money really go? … Trillions of dollars collected and allocated every year, to mysterious projects, where public oversight ends, without taxpayer consent, and no one even bats an eye.
We have people living on the streets, our elderly struggle to survive on assistance
, our veterans are setting themselves on fire like Buddhist monks, and yet large quantities of our money is being sent to other countries under the guise of foreign aid
.
How is this logical? …
Who are the ones orchestrating these payments?...
What is that money used for?...
You are about to find out the answers to all of these questions and I can guarantee that you are not going to like any of the answers. These answers are going to scare you. They will make you feel sick and the inevitable denial will have you saying NO! THAT’S NOT TRUE! NONE OF THIS CAN BE TRUE!
If you have read this far, you now need to make a decision. You can stop reading this document (And you should really stop reading this document. I am not kidding!) and go about your everyday life. Living a simple life… With the happy illusions you have created for yourself. Admiring the pretty landscapes, the animals, watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the stars at night… Your own utopia of ignorance… Or… You can read the rest of this document and turn your entire world completely upside down… Never feel normal again… Never be happy again… Lose all hope… Lose everything… See the things you don’t want to see…. Hear the answer you would never want to hear… To know what is out there in the darkness… In the black… In the empty… Because the answers are what nightmares are made of…
But if you have chosen the latter, then all I have left to say to your poor soul is….
Welcome to the Shadow Government
With the deepest of sympathies,
Shadow General P. King
THE LIGHT
Cindy can I get coffee to go?
asked Gill.
Sure Gill, coming right up.
replied Cindy.
The sheriff sits quietly on a stool at the café diner truck stop. Evening chatter fills the air by the patrons about the days activities, stories about what the kids are up to; and the weather. Gill sifts through his wallet to find a ten dollar bill and places it on the table. Cindy returns with the coffee,
Here you are Gill, have a good night.
said Cindy.
See you tomorrow Cindy.
replied Gill.
A bell rings as the door opens, and the door slowly closes. Shuffling toward his car and fumbling for his keys with one hand and a coffee in the other, Gill opens the car door and gets inside. The old Ford starts, the radio turns on; and Gill drives off lighting a cigarette.
"Sheriff, Bobby and Mary Joe are at it again, Margret
