Okudaira ... You just mentioned the name?
On the following day, Terumi Hino suspiciously said to Camellia, who was wearing a gray sweatshirt and a pair of blue trousers that were suitable for walking through the forest path, and visiting Professor Hino’s house again.
Yes, I know him, of course. You know, he was an assistant to my husband. He had visited here several times.
Camellia was shown into a drawing room from the entrance and sat on a sofa as offered.
If I remember right, his full name was Keisuke Okudaira.
Terumi prepared cups of tea for two persons, put them on the table, and sat on the opposite sofa to face Camellia over the table.
It seemed that Okudaira had been involved in the research and study of Horror Stories at School
, as a student attending Professor Hino’s seminar at first, and then as an assistant. He actively made visits from school to school with the professor, and made efforts to collect horror stories. He was, so to speak, a contributor of the study behind the scene.
But one day ...
Terumi heard Professor Hino severely scolding Okudaira in this drawing room when she was preparing tea to serve in the kitchen. Her husband was screaming, What have you done?!
, Why have you done such a thing?!
What on Earth made Professor Hino angry, ma’am?
Camellia put a question and Terumi leaned her head.
Well, I’m not sure ... But.
But?
Camellia chimed in to urge her to continue. Terumi held her breath a little hesitantly, and said, Seven Wonders at School.
Seven Wonders at School?!
Yes. I heard such a phrase several times. About the details, though ... oh ... come to think of it.
Terumi seemed to be recalling something.
If I remember correctly, I think my husband said, ‘You have ended up fabricating an imaginary legend.’
When Terumi brought the tea to the two of them, they suddenly sank into silence. Professor Hino’s rough breathing, Okudaira’s eerie smile, and the dark cloud enveloping the room seemed to have devolved heavily upon her shoulders.
I asked my husband about what had happened between them, but he didn’t tell me anything. Anyway, since the day, my husband had quit the research and study of ‘Horror Stories at School’, which he had once deeply devoted himself to.
Putting a slight smile on her cheeks, Terumi made a dry sigh. In the meanwhile, Camellia was thinking about it very quickly and thoroughly.
There was a confrontation between Professor Hino and Okudaira with regard to Seven Wonders at School
. Professor Hino’s remark, You made a critical mistake of fabricating an imaginary legend.
In short, Keisuke Okudaira created an imaginary legend
, which was the imaginary ‘Seven Wonders at School’
!
I knew that the Okudaira guy was significantly involved in Seven Wonders at School
. Not just having been involved. Rather, Okudaira is the ringleader who propagated the imaginary
Seven Wonders at School
. Camellia was sure of that after listening to Terumi’s account.
When Professor Hino learned of what his student and assistant had done, he got mad, was deeply heartbroken, and quit his research. But, why did Keisuke Okudaira do such a thing? Camellia felt that the mystery was deepening even more.
After that, my husband didn’t let others come close. Except when he had to lecture a class in the university, he shut himself in this house. He had spent such a hermit-like life until the day he died.
Terumi slowly sipped the tea.
Did Professor Hino die of an illness, or something?
No, he was murdered.
Terumi’s abrupt remark almost made Camellia slip down from the sofa.
Professor Hino was ... murdered?!

Kobayashi was visiting a shore in Nobehama. There was no reason. Maybe, a mere whim in a way. He just had an urge to visit the place. To stand at this point and to feel Samejima Island far away into the sea.
Ryoichi Toride, and another Ryoichi Toride who appeared in front of his mother. Toride, what is your aim? What do you want to do?
Urban Legend Serial Murder Case
... The murder with the purpose to materialize the urban legends produced by people’s delusion. Did you order someone to do that?
(Materializing someone’s delusion?)
Suddenly, a freezing intuition came up in Kobayashi’s mind.
Materializing someone’s delusion! If the delusion started craving for its flesh and blood ... Like the movie Kondo talked about. If it was longing for the energy and the visible strength?!
The waves
