About this ebook

Children's Reading Quiz Book Each year as part of the World Book Day celebrations, it is a really wonderful idea to organise a Children's Reading Quiz based on books which have been recently studied in class. The children can have such a brilliant time trying to compete against other House Teams to win the Annual Quiz Master Trophy. This book seeks to make life easy for the Quiz Master, offering around 4 or 5 years worth of quizzes. ----------------------------------------------------------

    Dedication

To my amazing wife, Christine and my dearly beloved children

and grandchildren: Tom, Katie, Lewis, Summer and Bella.

Without your support and patience, I would be nothing.

To Becky, our very special daughter-in-law.

Thank you for being a wonderful mother to our

grandchildren. We love you like a daughter.

To my long-departed but never-forgotten mother, Wendy.

You were a huge source of inspiration throughout my childhood.

    Mother. Artist. Role model. Friend.

Thank you for introducing me to the world of books,

and the magic and wonder that they create.

To my father Roy. All my love.

How to organise an exciting quiz…

When setting up the room which you intend to use for the Children’s Book Quiz, I would recommend the following:

One table for each House – supplied with one pencil for the scribe, and a couple of spare pencils in the event of breakage.

At least one adultshould be sat with each House for the entirety of the Quiz. They will be required to mark the papers at the end of each round. They are only allowed to offer answers during the Bumper Question Rounds.

All children should be invited to sit around the table in positions where they can see the whiteboard/screen (for the observation round).

The Table Top Picture Round should be made available for children to access during the quiz. They will not be given specific time to complete this and should try to write down the answers during any spare time between questions or rounds.

You should select around eight or nine rounds of questions from those available in this book:

    ThreeRounds For Younger Children

    OneObservation Round

    FourRounds For Older Children

    One Bumper Question Round

Some of the rounds are aimed at specific key stages. I would suggest that the end of Round Four would form a natural break, if you wish to remove the younger children at this time.

Welcome to our World Book Day Quiz.         [a script]

This is how the Quiz is going to work.

I will read out each question twice. You need to listen very carefully. If you do not listen properly, you might not understand the question.

Most of the question rounds are based on some of the books you have been learning about in class.
