    Prelude

    It took his eyes a moment to adjust to the dim lighting of the kitchen.  He was horrified at the sight he saw.  There, strapped to the kitchen table was Moon.  As he drew nearer to her, he could see she had been hurt.  Badly hurt.  He tugged at the cuffs around her wrists and ankles.  They would not break.  He looked at Moon, who lay so still now.  He swallowed hard at the sight of her.  She did not seem to notice he was even there.

    He pulled open drawers looking for a knife to cut away the straps.  Anything sharp would do just fine.  But he was not able to find anything.  He looked around the room frantically, when he remembered when they were little, they stripped the home of sharp objects.  He defied her, and taped a pocket knife under the table.  He felt around under the table for it.  After a few swipes of the hand he felt the blade.  Pulling it from it's hiding space, he took the remnants of tape off of it, and began sawing away as fast as he could at the cuffs.  Moon's head swung around quick.  I thought we said no knives?  She said in a low, raspy voice.  He was taken off guard, looked her in the eye, he seen a tear escape.  He watched the tear make it's decent past her temple, across a fresh cigar burn, pass her ear and fall to the table.  He felt himself growing angrier by the second.  He turned back and continued sawing at the cuff.

    She said nothing else to him as he made his way around, cutting away her cuffs.  He wished she had, it would have distracted him from see
