About this ebook

The Four-Evers came on the New York City music scene in the mid-60s. Picked up by Bob Crewe, songwriter/producer of many of the Four Seasons' biggest hits, Crewe began molding them in the image of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. Despite a long list of exceptional records, they are remembered primarily for their one national hit, "Be My Girl," but what a great song it is! They would work closely at times with members of the Four Seasons as they continued to turn out excellent music. When they weren't recording their own records, they were often heard doing backup vocals for others, such as The Archies, Tracey Dey, Eddie Rambeau and many others. Read the interesting history behind this magnificent East Coast doo-wop group. A list of their records is included along with many of the songs on which they provided backup vocals. If you like vocal group music, you'll love The Four-Evers!

    Introduction

The Four-Evers/4-Evers was a superb white doo-wop vocal group from Brooklyn, New York.  Although one of the best vocal groups during the mid-sixties, the group saw very limited record chart success and were often relegated to providing backup vocals for others.

The 4 Seasons, on the other hand, was one of the most successful vocal groups to ever stand behind a microphone. The following dissertation describes how these two exceptional groups (one immensely popular, the other practically unknown) intertwined.

After a variety of name changes and trivial misses, the 4 Seasons, of Newark, New Jersey, finally struck big with Sherry, in 1962. Similar hit songs composed by 4 Seasons’ keyboardist/vocalist Bob Gaudio followed to the top of the singles charts in quick succession. After three consecutive number ones for Vee-Jay Records, the band scored another number one and three successive Top Ten singles for Philips in 1964.

It took almost ten years for them to finally catch on with the record buying public (although the group had a #62 charter in 1956 with "You’re the Apple of My
