This psychological thriller is about a woman who is in a polygamist marriage and who ultimately decides to track down her husband's other two wives. I had little sympathy for the character because I questioned why she would stay if she wasn't happy. But the book kept me turning pages as the plot twisted and turned eventually coming to an ending that was not entirely surprising.

The message is clear here. Mental health is no joke. I enjoyed this book. I was expecting the book to go in a different direction halfway through and that she really was not imagining everything. But now I think about it, there has already been a lot of books like that. Nice one, I will have to check out her other novels.

One man, three wives, none of whom originally know each other. As the book progresses, the main character is obsessed with learning about the other women. She asks her husband leading questions. She is known as Thursday, the day which the husband sets aside for her.She dotes on him. She makes wonderful meals for him. The relationship begins to falter when she looses a baby she is carrying. She is able to track down the other women, and have conversations with them.As the complicated relationships continue to lead Ms. Thursday to want to learn more, her husband learns of her duplicity, and becomes physically abusive. She learns that he also is physically harming the others as well.As the plot thickens, her relationship with her husband continues to spiral downward, and the husband has her committed to an institution. Is she really "crazy?"Because the ending seems to be convoluted, I didn't particularly like this book.

The suspense in this book was good until it became tedious toward the last half. Polygamy in a context other than women wearing long dresses with multiple children in a fundamentalist environment is an interesting premise, but there were too many implausible situations to make it believable. I stopped caring about the characters before I finished reading the book.

I read a review that said you’ll have whiplash until the very end. I couldn’t agree more. This is the role model for unreliable narrators. Is Thursday the legal wife in a polygamous marriage? She lives in Seattle and the other two “wives” live in Portland Oregon. A longer review would only give away too much.

It is rare to find a book that truly reveals itself to you until the last page. Dark, suspenseful, shocking, and riveting. It is a quick read.

A woman’s husband has two other wives that she knows about but has never met. Thursday thinks she is fine with this arrangement and seeing her husband once a week. But after finding a scrap of paper in her husband’s pocket with the name of his other wife, Thursday begins her search to find out who this woman really is.An entertaining read with an ending I wasn’t expecting. Thank you to #NetGalley and the Graydon House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story with twists and turns that I did not expect. Thursday is married to Seth, a man she only sees once a week because they are in a polygamous relationship and he spends the other days with his other wives. One day Thursday's curiosity gets the best of her and she goes looking for information about Seth's other wives. Do you know the old adage curiosity killed the cat? Some times it doesn't kill you but it does make you doubt your sanity.

Thanks to NetGalley for this review copy!

This is the story of Seth and his three wives. The story is told in the voice of (legally married) wife #2; sometimes amorous, sometimes regretful. Seth explains his polygamy with the explanation that he grew up in Utah and with the sentence I love you all differently but equally. One day wife #2 discovers a piece of paper in Seth’s coat and discovers information about wife #3, named Hannah. Wife #2 snoops some more and tracks her down, eventually, ironically, becoming friends with her. They share breakfasts and family stories without discovering they have a husband in common. However, Hannah starts showing up to their meetings with visible bruises, and wife #2 has questions. Lots of them. Seth has never been violent with her before, and she starts wondering more about the man she married. She also continues to snoop, finding wife #1 on Facebook and other social media sites. It’s like she’s addicted to hurting herself with this information.

The author paints a perfect picture of a woman with a polygamous man; insecure one moment and in love the next. Wife #2’s internal monologues are spot-on, just another woman wondering about what her husband is thinking and what he’s doing when he is away from her. The twist here is that none of the narrators are reliable, and you don’t know what is going to happen next. I thought I had the story straight, then suddenly there was a plot twist and it changed EVERYTHING. After that some things made more sense, while others didn’t make sense at all. I was torn between feeling sorry for wife #2 or thinking about her scornfully. Seth is no gem either, despite the fact that wife #2 keeps hanging on to him even though she is crazy jealous of his other two wives.

This book lived up to all the hype – there is drama and psychological suspense galore. Towards the end, all the characters start to decompensate, which provides for an amazing and shocking ending. I literally spent the entire day reading this book, which is something that I don’t normally do. I’m eagerly awaiting Ms. Fisher’s next work. You can pick up your copy of THE WIVES here.
