AN INTRODUCTION
THERE IS NOTHING NEW about an alert visitor’s ability to see with appreciative eyes the beauties or oddities or grandeurs which a Lifetime resident in any community has never more than noted. And perhaps, for that reason, there should be no surprise over a born mountaineer’s discovery, in the Chesapeake Bay and its estuaries and the tidewater Lands, such scenes as usually elude the people who all their lives have dwelt nearby, indifferent.
In the splendid pages which follow, it is safe to say, there are scores and scores of things which for decades have gone unnoticed by most of us—until an artist’s eye has detected them at just the right time of day, in the right time of the year and in the right kind of weather, and in the
