Looking back I was a bit of an entrepreneur. I worked in the surfboard industry, made surfboards under my own name, published a magazine here in Cronulla, made surfing films, did commentary on the world professional tour, wrote stories for magazines, and basically all the stuff which now blends into social media. I was almost a blogger before it was invented.

There used to be an Italian restaurant opposite the Bowling Club but when I was at Kogarah High School in the early ‘60s, it was Cronulla Store-ABoard. During the original Beach Boys surf boom in ’62-63 you couldn’t take your longboards on the red rattler trains so we used to pay forty cents a week to leave our boards there.
