Chapter 1:
Introduction to Digital Assets
Cryptocurrency is a type of Digital assets created through an algorithm or mathematical engineering; they are virtual digital currencies which are built with cryptographic protocols that make digital asset transactions more secured and difficult to fake.
These digital assets are built with cryptographic protocols because cryptographic protocols have specific rules that enable discreet transfer of data between sender and recipient; Since cryptography enables concealing of information so that it can be sent between sender and recipient in a secure and discrete manner, developers used the knowledge of cryptography and distributed ledger system to create digital currencies which are, decentralized open, secure, fast, anonymous, and which for the most part, bypasses traditional financial structures.
It is the use of cryptographic protocol and the distributed ledger system in the development of digital currencies, which makes them easier to use to conduct transactions; for once, transfers are simplified through the use of public and private keys that provide privacy and security of transfers. And most importantly transfers between sender and recipient are done with minimal processing fees which allow users to avoid the steep transaction cost charged by traditional financial institutions
Digital currencies are regarded as The Money of the Future
because, evidence show that financial transactions will eventually be digital, universal and almost free of transaction fees; we are already witnessing National governments which control traditional or fiat currencies institute cashless societies where people can transact businesses using centralized digital currencies.
Digital currencies, with their decentralized nature is the next step of the financial revolution being witnessed in the world’ today because digital currencies has began to see increased use from different sectors of the world economy and their decentralized nature will eventually make them universal.
It is worth mentioning here that the world’s first cryptocurrency by the name Bitcoin was developed by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009; and since then bitcoin has remained the most notably cryptocurrency which had captured the imagination of some people, struck fear among others, and confused the heck out of the rest of the people. In his announcement of Bitcoin in late 2008, Satoshi said that he had developed A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System
; a feat which so many people tried but failed to create.
There were many attempts in the nineties, to create digital money but they all failed because of they were all centralized. After seeing the centralized attempts fail, Satoshi built digital cash system which utilized
