CHAPTER ONE
KILL THE MONSTER WHILE HE'S SMALL
If we want to improve our results in any area, we must inevitably change something in what we do and how we do it.
An old maxim reads: People who do the things they have always done, they get the results they've always achieved,
yet, incredibly, most of the humans hope to achieve different effects without changing anything!
In general, in a relatively intuitive and unconscious way, we always continue to use same thought patterns, to behave in the same ways as always, to see things from
a single point of view, obviously deriving from all these situations which are the photocopy of other experiences in the past.
Change is often scary. The difference is something that scares us despite being part of it integral to our experience as human beings. Our whole life is a continuous and constant change, starting from our own body, which is never the same. Every second that passes, some cells die and are replaced by new ones, and, like a river that
flows, we are always the same, but in reality, always different. The change is in our being and also trying in every way to oppose us to this natural law, maybe with huge investments in plastic surgery, in ten years we will inevitably be different!
One of the main reasons why change scares is the idea that to change,
we must eliminate what exists and start from scratch. Kind of like we had to admit that we had done everything wrong, that we had failed, that we had thrown away a flood of time and energy.
If we see change within us in this way, it will be tough to welcome him ... But luckily change you don't mean that! We must not reset ourselves to then rebuild ourselves.
We can throw away an old suit and replace it with a new one, but we can never do it myself the same with ourselves, our thoughts, or our ways of doing. On the contrary, we can start from where we are to expand, evolve, progress. For change is not necessary to make an effort: as we said, changes will take place; however, whether we want it or not. Surely sooner or later things will happen that don't we wish they never happened, we will grow old, we will lose loved ones, they will change situations, acquaintances, all this is inevitable. The change will still occur though we will try to oppose it. Adjustment is automatic, while improvement is not.
And it is precisely to ensure that transformations lead us to progress that we must commit ourselves if we want to get better results.
Have you ever met someone who, complaining of eternal dissatisfaction, continues to change work or partner, finding himself invariably, after some time, in the same negative starting situation that seems to repeat itself endlessly? These people think that changing jobs or partners is the most suitable solution when it is enough. If the problem persists, it is not the outside that generates, but they are themselves. Then the only real way out is to evolve, to change that part of yourself that causes difficulties, those thoughts or behavior patterns that always create results in different situations
