Jenna dropped her bag hard on the bed frowning. Her eyes were red and puffy. It was swollen too and she winced as she looked at her image in her long standing mirror. Ignoring the look on her face, she turned to her bed and bounced on it. Looking up at the ceiling, she stretched forth her hands.

By my side Reina of majesty she whispered softly and closed her eyes.

A loud whooshing noise filled the room and within seconds, it was gone. She opened her eyes and saw the pretty blue eyed girl standing in front of her bed staring at her in curiosity. The girl sighed and strokes back a strand of blonde hair. Her red medieval dress smelled of lilac and it filled the room.

What is it now Jenna she said rolling her eyes. Her summoned said nothing and buried her face deeper in her pillow.

Oh for the sake of the gods, what is it now, I was baking sweet cookies before you interrupted me

Jenna turned to her now and shook her head.

You are as harsh as always

Rania scoffed. Well, you can't blame me for having a life

What life? You are dead! Jenna shrieked.

Well, that's true, but it doesn't mean I can't enjoy myself

Jenna seemed to have gotten herself back. Her spirit guardian always seemed to strengthen her even though it was with sarcasm. She sighed.

    I lost she muttered.

    I lost to her

Her guardian said nothing for a while and then nodded. I knew it

    What?

Yes! I knew you would lose...when you never listen to anything I teach you

Jenna sighed. She was regretting calling Reina.

But this mustn't happen again Reina added suddenly and Jenna saw she had frowned with a strong determined look in her eyes.

We begin our training again tomorrow she stared at her long.

And you better not miss it she blurted and disappeared. Jenna groaned. She hated training. She hated magic and ghosts, she hated her life but most of all, she hated HIM. She had wanted to prove herself by beating that arrogant bitch Leticia. But something had gone wrong. Suddenly, she was no longer in control of her body or her powers and then Ticia had won and she had noticed the grin in his lips and that had been more than a thousand knives.

Jenny honey, do you want a sandwich? Her mother's voice yelled from downstairs. She wanted to stay in bed all day reveling in her humiliating defeat but the rumble in her stomach made her think otherwise. She washed her face in the bathroom and held her wand as she stared into her mirror.

Pace fixe she muttered and her normal look returned. Her eyes were no longer swollen, her mouth was pink again and her skin smooth but her haggard identity remained. Nothing could change that. Not even magic. She changed her clothes into a sweat shirt and grey pants and descended the stairs. Mother was in the kitchen running around all plastered in flower. Jenna stood watching her till she had decided she had had enough.

Mom, why do you always have to go through this, you can always use magic she said.

Mother laughed. No! No! No, I am an old fashioned lady and I will do things the old fashioned way she was rolling dough on the table, her green eyes focused.

Jenna noticed the cake on top of the fridge and the big delicious looking roasted chicken.

    Are we having guests over?

As a matter of fact we are, they are really important guests she sighed and stroke her red hair worriedly. Theresa Mills, her mother was a really beautiful woman, so beautiful many refused to believe that she was her mother. She was tall, slim with green shiny eyes that could pierce into any man's soul but she was a single mother. Her mother had never told her about her father. Each time she asked about it, she would tell her to forget about it. It was safer if she knew nothing about him. Soon, she became used to it but deep inside, she knew it was only a matter of time. She would find out about her father and if he wasn't dead, ask him why he had abandoned them for so long.

She watched her mother sigh deeply. I really wanted to do the samosa bread with my own two hands but I fear it can't be helped

She closed her eyes and lifted her hands. A curseo replitia dia she whispered.

The flour suddenly began to take shape then it disappeared and hot samosa bread was lying on the table glistening in the evening dew. It never failed to surprise her, the way her mother was able to do spells without a wand. She simply used her hands. It was downright amazing. Not even her teachers at Galleys academy of magic could do that. It was said that only a special few could do that. Jenna wished she was like her mother in that area. Maybe then she could enjoy magic.

It’s ready Mom announced throwing her flour covered apron on the kitchen cabinet. She looked apprehensive about something. Her eyes were wary.

Mom, are you okay? Jenna asked coming closer.

Oh, I'm fine sweetheart! Mom said recovering her composure.

That looks delicious, can I take a bite? she said reaching for it when mom slapped her hands. This is for our guests she said.

You shouldn't have bothered yourself when you ended up using magic... And with your hands too

Jenna, I hope you don't go around telling everyone that your mom does magic with her hands Mom said looking quite serious. She shook my head. Mom had warned her never to tell anyone about it ever since she caught her doing magic with her hands three years ago. Their dog, happy had gotten injured and she had healed her just by laying her hands over her. Much as she thought about it, mom had too many secrets. There weren't many people in their lives. She didn't know if she had any other relatives apart from Aunt Margaret who comes twice monthly to check on them, but she too kept secrets. They always whispered to each other as if they were hiding something from her.

Jenna sighed. There was no one else except each other.

What of the sandwich? she said.

It’s in the microwave Mom said and seemed to be thinking again. Jenna walked to the microwave, opened it and took out the sandwich. As she took a bite, she saw her dark haired friend through the window waving at her and smiling, the breeze blowing at her hair.

Mom, can I go for a walk, I'll be right back in time for dinner She called.

Alright, but make sure you are back in time Mom said absently and Jenna was out the house as fast as lightening. She breathed deeply as soon as she was out. For some reason, she felt stifled in that house. Mom had not been herself for some days. She seemed to be facing something disturbing which she obviously couldn't tell her eighteen year old daughter.

Hey jenny, you ready? her friend said as they reached each other. Polly was a dark haired beauty with fiery blue eyes, straight chin and high cheekbones. Her full name was Poliana but she shortened it to sound fun. She wasn't that tall but she had a fondness for high heeled boots and bum short which made her look chic and Jenna, insecure. With her own red hair and freckles, she didn't stand a chance but she loved Polly's company because she brought out the best in her.

Ready? she stared at her friend. Why? Jenna asked confused.

For the party of hors Polly answered staring at her strangely. Party of hors was held after the end of exams as a way to relax and unwind. But it was indirectly meant for the victors and not the losers. Jenna remembered and shook her head

No way, I'm not going to the party of hors

    Come on Jenna

I can't go, after I was been humiliated by Ticia I said frowning.

Come on, jenny you only got beaten by Ticia, you won the other battles. Besides, there was no way you would have beaten her. She's a royal

Jenna squeezed her lips so hard she could almost taste blood.

Still, I'm humiliated. I was sure that I would win her and still she ended up giving me a good beating especially in front of him her voice hardened.

Geez jenny! would it kill you to say his name? He's the Prince you know, it isn't right for you to be in his bad books Polly said but Jenna rolled her eyes.

Does he think that I am going to go down on my knees and beg him? He should think again. He's going to become an old man with grey hairs and a bent back before I do that she spat.

Gosh, I don't know what he must have done to warrant this hatred Polly said eyeing her friend. Jenna said nothing and looked away.

    So you aren't coming

Even If I wanted, I wouldn't be able to come, Mom is having guests and she said I should be there

Polly sighed. Okay, whatever I tried but you are going to regret it she said cheerfully, her eyes twinkling. There are going to be lots of drinking and hot guys

Jenna smiled. I don't care about hot guys

I forgot, virgin alert Polly laughed and Jenna hit her playfully. You know, I'm just waiting for the right one she said.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Whatever her friend said gesticulating. Since we aren't going to hang out at the party, let's take a walk

Both girls grabbed onto each other giggling. They had a really long walk, stopping at a shop to grab some soda, eating pizza, window shopping and afterwards heading to the cinema to watch a movie. It was evening when both realized that Polly was to go to the party of hors and Jenna to dinner at her home. Both girls separated and Jenna headed home. She was sure mom would be mad at her for being late but she wouldn't take it out on her when they had guests. There was very fancy luxury cars parked at the sides of the house. She approached the back door and heard noises. People where already there. She opened the door and entered. The door led to the kitchen and from there, she could make out those in the room. They looked influential and important. Jenna saw her mother in the dining. Her face seemed pale. She could over hear them saying something about her coming back home.

Jenna's heart beat faster. Could they be her family relatives? She tiptoed across. No one had seen her. She didn't want to deal with all the introductions now then she bumped into something on her way, something soft, yet hard. It was a figure of a man. She stopped and then looked up as solid sea blue eyes met her
