Chapter 1: Anna
If you asked Anna to predict what the next few days
would be like for her, it would be next to impossible. There was absolutely, no way to predict the time journey she was about to embark on and how it was going to change her life, as she knew it… forever. Anna’s normal life was about to mimic a sci-fi movie, and she was definitely not prepared for it.
Was Anna happy with what was going on in her life right now? No, not one bit. One thing was for sure: Anna had plenty of reasons why she would want to go back in time and relive some of her family memories, if she had a time machine.
One time out of the blue, in third grade, Anna’s parents came to her school with Mickey Mouse Ears in hand and whisked her away to Disney for a family vacation. What kid wouldn’t love an awesome surprise like that in the middle of January?
The following school year, her dad Chris surprised her at the end of the school day with a stretch limo! It was the biggest car Anna and her friends had ever seen. Anna felt a little embarrassed because it was a pretty extravagant way of getting picked up from school. But as you can imagine, the embarrassment didn’t last for long, because her dad took her entire class (with permission from their parents) to the movies after school. Anna was pretty much a legend after that. Fourth graders at Oquenock Elementary school knew her from that day on as the girl with the cool dad.
Anna wasn’t the show off type, but she didn’t’ mind having positive attention from time to time.
Chapter 2: Fifth Grade
In fifth grade, everything started to change, and not in a good way…at all. That was the year Anna’s parents, Chris and Linda got divorced. The divorce was terrible for Anna. She hated it, and didn’t like that her family was now split up and that her dad lived in a different house. In her mind it meant no more family movie nights, no more eating together as a family, and no more playing games together. Activities that Anna had always looked forward to. But most of all, it meant change, and change wasn’t something that any kid really liked to deal with. Especially, when it came to family.
Besides Anna having to get used to her parents’ divorce and only seeing her dad on weekends, fifth grade was business as usual. She had to wake up too early every morning for school, took the bus (that was always so loud and bumpy) and had lots of homework every day, except Fridays. She had her usual after school activities, dance, soccer and Girl Scouts. Her dad continued to picked her up every day after school, and her mom still spent a lot of quality time with her, such as painting her nails, doing her makeup, and making slime with her (which Anna always thought was super cool since most of her friend’s parents didn’t allow slime in their houses). As much as her parents tried to keep the same routines in place… Anna was miserable, and she just couldn’t shake the feeling. It was just not the same for her as when they were all together, living under the same roof. Anna wanted her family back together, and there was nothing that anyone could say or do that would change that.
Chris now lived alone in a small apartment across town, which Anna did not like. They lived in the very small town of West Islip, New York. So small, that across town meant, maybe a mile, tops. It wasn’t so much the distance, that bothered Anna, it was that she despised splitting her time between her Mom and Dad. She
