Her Ladyship's Submission - Em Brown

    Chapter One

Lady Georgianna Pennington stiffened in her seat, no longer able to appreciate the stirring sounds of Mozart’s Sonata Number 5 in G Major, performed on the pianoforte by the hostess’s niece, and quickly turned her head forward. Georgianna had not expected that Mrs. Lexington would have invited him to the soiree. Glancing down in thought, Georgianna considered if she could perhaps take an early leave from the event, though she had arrived but half an hour ago. While she had fully expected to cross paths with Cedman Ashley at some point, she had not thought it would happen today. Supposedly he was out of town, a guest of the wealthy Adams family, whose daughter he courted. She had not readied herself for this moment.

After their last encounter, in which she had entrapped him to resume his role of Master Ashley at the Inn of the Red Chrysanthemum, a clandestine den of debauchery, she had taken herself to her late husband’s country estate to avoid him. While the heat would rise to her cheeks and swirl in her belly when she recalled her submission to him, shame would also surface. It had been most wicked of her to have purchased the house his mother and sister resided in then pretend that she would evict them lest he reprise his role as Master Ashley. How he had made her pay for her sins in the most devilish and delightful manner!

Pulling herself from her descent into the past, she glanced back and saw Cedman quietly take his seat. Her pulse quickened. It would be rude of her to leave before Miss Anne had finished playing, but perhaps afterwards, she could explain to Mrs. Lexington that a headache had overcome her, necessitating her to take her leave.

But was it silly of her to run away in such a manner? After their night together, an exquisite blend of pain and pleasure, she had confessed the truth of her actions to Cedman, and he had seemed to forgive her. But it were possible that in reviewing the anguish in which she had placed him and his family, he reconsidered his disposition and deemed her a wretch. She had written him a more thorough apology, but had received no response, which indicated to her that he must harbor some ill feelings toward her. However, as she still owned his family’s property and had lowered the rent for his mother and sister, he could not be too furious with her.

There was also that other reason for not wanting to be near Cedman: her desire for him. It burned still and even more since he had filled her lustful dreams that night. How she wanted an encore! Every night for a sennight after, she had made herself spend with memories of how he had made her body quiver with his touch, writhe beneath his flogger, and spasm about his cock. His nearness would only renew the ardor she had attempted to dispel in his absence.

She had altruistic motives, too. He had an opportunity to secure his finances through marriage with the eldest Adams daughter. A widow who had not Miss Adam’s youth and beauty, Georgianna offered little in comparison. Although her late husband had bequeathed her properties and a sizable annuity, they were hers only if she remained unmarried. She would not wish to sully Cedman’s chances with Miss Adams.

When Miss Anne had finished the sonata and curtsied to the applause, Georgianna remained in her seat, waiting for everyone to take their leave of the parlor to head outside where tea and refreshments were to be served. Miss Dorothy, Mrs. Lexington’s other niece, foiled her plans, however.

Lady Pennington, will you join us in a round of pall-mall after tea? the young woman asked. We are playing in teams of four and are short one person.

Oh, I fear I would do you no good, Georgianna replied. I have not played in several years.

But Aunt Elizabeth said you were marvelous, that even the men could not best you!

That was a long time ago.

But if you have not played in several years, perhaps you are better than you think?

    Georgianna shook her head. Doubtful.

Lady Pennington is being modest, came a warm baritone.

She knew the voice without having to look upon the speaker. She heard his footsteps and tried to stay the flutters through her veins.

After gathering herself, she turned to him. He looked as handsome as ever. He wore his dark hair a little shorter, a choice possibly prompted by the warmer weather.

What an accusation, sir, she said.

Cedman gazed down at her with a wry smile. I find her ladyship can be full of surprises.

Even if your play is not what it once was, Miss Dorothy continued, "you would enable us to form our teams. We can’t
