Chapter 1: If God has to choose

It is a popular notion that Mary is the chosen one of God, chosen to be the mother of His only begotten Son. But since choosing implies options, does this mean there were other mother-of-God candidates aside from Mary? And if there were choices, was Mary a random, a subjective, or an objective one?

Let us first address the issue of the kind of choice God has to make should there be mother-of-God choices.

To get to the answer, it seems practical to meditate first on the purpose of the mother of God. Briefly, she is to be the source of the human component of the savior, Jesus Christ. The flesh and blood that she contributes would eventually become the perfect sacrificial offering for the sins of the world (for brevity, this pertinent sacrificial offering will be referred to here as the Sacrifice from this point on).

It is easy to see that this role is not easy. But just how not easy it is? How can we illustrate it?

    - By hyperbole? But any linguistic exaggeration device, like it's a tall order, would be far from worthy to signify it. It only evidences the inadequacy of words to describe just how elevated this role is.

    - By comparison with something similar? But up until now, there has never been anything like it in history. Most likely, there will never be.

    - By analogy? But it's a one-of-a-kind phenomenon, to which could it be paralleled?

Again, just how not easy it is? We have to look at the picture of the Sacrifice, for only its reflection could sketch just how.

Necessitated by its purpose, the Sacrifice has to be a not-made-perfect perfect (here, made-perfect is when existence precedes perfection or when one has to be born first and achieve perfection later on). It has to be perfect not later than the moment of its existence. Otherwise, it would imply that there is a moment, at least that instant before being made perfect, that it is not perfect. And this, viewed in its totality, constitutes imperfection. Let us bear in mind that it is to pay in full all the sins of all human beings. So, it is but justice that the cover or payment for this full or perfect
