About this ebook

Magic can mend, but only love can heal.
Dying, broken, his identity lost, one man has fought his way out of the hands of his kidnappers. Tortured by the Collectors for control of his magic, he has only one goal left: to heal the place they had ripped him away from. He remembers that pool and the spirits living within its waters. Yet, Owen has been hoping and praying for the return of this man, and he is determined to wake Manu’s memories.
Love has to be stronger than the pain both of them have been through, but will it be enough to mend all the damage the Collectors have left behind?

One foot. Then the other. Right. Left. That is all that mattered. Faraway there was pain. In the distance, every fibre of his body burned with energy-saturated exhaustion.

    He was dying.

    That wasn’t important.

Shadows passed across his vision, trying to distract him. Some screamed. Some ran. Some tried to stop him: they screamed

    for different reasons.

One foot. Then the other. Each step closer to the tiny feeling left within. The spark that meant he drew breath, that reminded him he existed. When it flickered, he heard his own voice wail a mix of fear and grief. Left, right, left-right, leftright, lefrig – he ran.

The agony made it back to his brain now, waking things, memories, emotions, and he dashed through woodland desperate to stay ahead of them. No longer blindly following a trail no-one else could see, he knew this place, he recognised the path. Overgrown, weeds reached out to trip, pulling at what little clothing remained on his body. He did not care, he let the rags fall away, taking their stench with them. He was naked when he staggered out into the open, feet sinking into sand.

What was left of his emotions tightened around the little flame at his centre. He remembered crystal blue gently rippling against gold, a cascade of white falling over greens and purples to join them in the deep midnight where waters ran deepest and the spirits had danced.

    Now he saw darkness.

Grey sludge slithered over ugly brown-black that dug at the soles of his feet as he staggered forward. Nothing reflected from that dank surface, and nothing flowed over rock now stained with sickly yellow. For a moment, he was afraid. Yet, he was still mostly angry. This was not right. He gasped in the putrid stench that hung over the pool and lurched forward into the water.

Needles dug into the flesh of his ankles, disgust oozing up his legs, and his whole body convulsed as hatred, their hatred, pushed into him. This was a pain he could not bear, but
