The 10 Principles of Personal Longevity and Personal Freedom - Martin K. Ettington

    Introduction

They say that one’s mission in life can often be shown to be pre-ordained by an event that happens when you are very young.

This may have happened to me when I was about four years old.

I lived in upstate New York and my Mom used to sometimes take me to Harris Hill near Elmira to ride the ponies.

Harris Hill was also the glider capital of the world and sometimes we would stop at the field to watch the gliders taking off.

One day I was standing on the concrete near the hangers and saw a grey haired tall man talking to some women.

I had a strange feeling and I don’t know why I did this, but I wandered over to him and said Are you the man who never dies?.

He gave me a very strange look and then my mother grabbed me and took me away apologizing for me.

Many years later I read that a man who may be as much as a thousand years old lived in that area. So who knows who I met that day.

IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 I wanted to write a book to give back much of what I had learned over the years about spiritual development and metaphysics.

In looking for a topic I was fascinated by the claims of many Indian Yogis that were said to live hundreds of years. I wondered if these claims were true and this was really possible.

This led to my research on long lived people and what I found was shocking. I found pictures, bios, and videos of people all over the world that had lived and were living well beyond the age of 150 years. I even found one Chinese man who was claimed to have lived to 256 years old. (Li Ching Yun who you will learn more about later)

As an engineer and career IT consultant I also have an analytical side and wanted to understand and explain extreme longevity to others.

The result of my research and meditations was my first book on longevity titled Physical Immortality: A History and How to Guide.

That book led to my networking with a lot of persons in the extreme longevity movement. Many of them are called Immortalists since they follow practices they believe will lead to their own life extension.

I also researched and wrote more books on related spiritual and holistic health topics over the last five years as I continued to learn and grow.

In mid 2012 I took all of the knowledge I had been accumulating and started to develop a new approach to teaching people about the possibilities of  long term health, greater happiness, and extended longevity.

This led me to codifying my ten principles of personal longevity which are the following:

The Reality of Long Lived People

    Defining Your Purpose in Life

    Enabling the Life Urge

    Your Spiritual Health

    Having Love in Your Heart

    Energy Body Health

    The Science of Longevity

    Physical Body Health

    Using your Intuition for Safety

    Implementation of these principles

Each principle is a progressive step towards helping the individual to maximize their long term health which leads towards extended longevity.

The rest of this book is designed to elaborate these ten principles with evidence, theory, and exercises to help everyone live as healthy, happy, and as long a life as possible.

I am also developing my business in parallel with this book to help everyone implement these principles in their lives.

As of 2017 we offer these services to everyone regarding longevity:

Longevity Coaching and Certification Programs-To provide new skills to professional wellness coaches and additional skills to other wellness professionals.

Packaged Longevity Workshops—For business to integrate their wellness programs together and teach clients about the 10 Principles in detail

ANOTHER THING I LEARNED in the last few years while marketing my Longevity Programs was that although most people are very interested in the topic of Longevity they often don’t want to pay for something with benefits which take decades to be realized.

I also knew that what I teach has many short term benefits. This is why I developed the concepts of Personal Freedom.

These are the things that you learn from the 10 Principles Longevity training which help change your psychological outlook on life and gives one more hope for the future.

I’ve included sections from a short EBook I wrote on Personal Freedom in the next chapter to describe more of what this is about.

The rest of this book consists of explanations and details on the 10 Principles of Personal Longevity.

Each of the 10 Principles Chapter headings now include a box on the benefits that principle provides for Personal Freedom

    Enjoy !

    About Personal Freedom

P ersonal Freedom is the term I use to describe the short term psychological benefits of what we teach. In this chapter you will learn more about this subject.

This chapter is the first chapter before the 10 Principles review since these are the short term benefits of learning the Longevity Lifestyle.

In further chapters in this book you will also see Personal Freedom statements outlined in red at the beginning of chapters—which indicates what this chapter is teaching you about Personal Freedom.

    What is Bothering Most People?

Many countries including the United States where I live profess that we all enjoy freedom. This is a common claim around the world.

Why then are so many people caught up in Hopelessness and feel like the walls are moving in to close them in?

Is there something missing in our lives? And I’m not just talking about Spiritual elements, but something about our civilization.

A discourse about freedom and security

CASE STUDY OF PERSONAL Freedom and Purpose in Life

Are you feeling secure or free? If you were to choose, which side would you like to be? This probably sounds vague without us defining what these two states of mind or being are, but again, the definition will not be accurate, it depends on where you come from.

You agree that as much as it is not possible to conclusively define these two terms, a feeling of being secure and that of being free are different but somehow interdependent.

LET’S LOOK AT THESE two mindsets:

Victor is a middle aged family man that has got a well-paying job as a salesman for a hi-tech company that allows him to meet his bills, educate his kids and keep up with the Joneses.

He diligently wakes up every working day because he doesn’t want to fail to go to work and not do the things expected of him by family, friends and relatives.

On the other hand, James is middle aged family man who is a gym instructor. He owns his own gym and works part time as a fitness instructor for kid’s talent club. His schedule allows him time to be with his family most of the morning hence he looks at family and kids as a life purpose and not as a responsibility.

Using the above examples, you already have a rough idea as to what freedom looks like and what security looks like. While the two intersect at some point freedom leads to security.

The value of gaining personal freedom cannot be compared to anything. This is why we are so passionate about holidays and look forward to an ideal state of mind where we

have less worries and more happiness. In freedom, we are able to enjoy our securities rather than worry about losing them.

Think about personal freedom as the foundation for all securities.  We have the power to feel secure when we have the power to feel free.  We owe it to ourselves to seek our freedom.

Everyone is born free, but we tend to suppress our freedom to conform to the limits that the society sets. Gaining freedom begins by you identifying that you are unique and with that comes very unique abilities.

That a no, it doesn’t work is just another opinion some expresses out of fear of losing their security. Fear itself is bondage and any idea born in fear is feeble.

The door is always open and it’s never too late to change the course. That is what living free is about.

Being able to do the things you like so as to gain true security of your mind, soul, body and spirit. To be able to smile genuinely and be a source of vibrant energy effortlessly.

Even the best talents have to be discovered and trained. With the help of professionals like the Personal-Longevity team, you will rediscover your purpose in life. If you keep working towards it, then you will gain both freedom and security.
