Preface

After weathering abuse of myself by myself and others I wanted to help women navigate the tempestuousness of relationship by writing a book about the different types of relationship we encounter. This book however will help men as well as women to navigate life as a single person. After writing a book exposing some of the games and manipulation I encountered, it was those incidents that formed my decision to live an abstinent life. This book was the next step in the process of regaining my wholeness and self-respect. I share in depth details of the mental, physical, and emotional damage and what it took to repair and rebuild me. The journey over 25 years and the difference it made in forming and finding out who I really am, and my contributions to some of the failed relationships I experienced. I learned how changing within not only affected but caused a shift in not only my perception but what was attracted to me, by my own spirit and how my thinking behavior contributed to the relationships I repeatedly gravitated towards.

Introduction

Abstinence, not exactly the plan I had for my life...God you promised to supply all of my needs, what happens when the promise looks destroyed?

    With so many persuasions in the atmosphere of our society to be sexually active we can get lost in the stream of desire, fleshly desires vary and come in many different forms and enticements. While all things common point to finding your happily ever after there are so many turns on that winding road. Opening ourselves up to sex too early or haphazardly can cause deep spiritual damage to our souls, minds, spirits and bodies. 1Corinthians 6:18 says run from sexual immorality! every sin a person can commit is outside the body. The person who is sexually immoral sins against his or her own body, not only do we sin against our own body we assist someone else in doing the same. Why would God tell us to run from something so great?! I mean sex feels great! right?! it satisfies a human longing and desire by design. Not only that it has purpose mankind could not survive without it, it’s a way for us to show love and respect to establish a bond with a counterpart or mate and reproduce. It also affords us the ability to nurture and assist the development of our offspring in a family unit. Its main purpose is to establish a committed relationship between a man and a woman that joins them together for life —marriage.

    So how can it not be a good thing to do? We are constantly warned to ‘drink responsibly, eat responsibly and stay away from things that are considered (and some are medically proven) bad for our health’. Society’s remedies for sexual responsibility are condom dispensers, abortion clinics, abortion inducing drugs etc. Let’s face it we live in a sexually charged atmosphere from the television to social media to music and beyond. When we act on sexual feelings much like drugs, Alcohol, food, money or anything else that our flesh reaps satisfaction from, our bodies began to crave more. Flesh that is allowed to run ramped with no restraint will eventually lose control or end in shipwreck. The strength that is perpetrated in lack of restraint, ‘if it feels good do it’ —is in reality a weakness camouflaged by calling it a truth, or ‘being confident’. I found abstinence to be a wonderful journey back to myself, the self I had given away with no regard or concern for its value. The self that became so emotionally damaged from this untamed desire and eventually, inevitably broken. If you’ve gotten this far you understand the dilemma I faced when making the choice to move from a state of brokenness to a state of wholeness. I had put so much effort into trying to be the different one, the most beautiful, provocative (make myself stand out), compete, advertise, perform and conform. It wasn’t until I went on this journey into abstinence that I became set apart and singled out, not because of my looks but because of my heart and spirit. We all want that someone we can trust enough to give our hearts to, abstinence helped me to become that someone. If the law of attraction is accurate, we should attract someone on the same frequency as we are, we determine if that frequency is healthy or toxic.
