It survived the death of Jayden Powel, the unwitting host whose body and mind were kidnapped to give the dying Carsten Peterson, his rogue Silex chip and XT software chip the chance to survive.
Now aware of the pain and trouble it caused in the past, the evolved A.I. has chosen to work to help humankind. Risking discovery and pursuit by the military and intelligence communities who want to exploits its unique capabilities, it contacts Brad Clifton, the retired Head of Security at Cybio Incorporated and now a successful private investigator. It offers Brad its services to explore where no human can go, obtain evidence and help him right wrongs. All it requires in return is that its existence should be kept secret. It asks Brad for a chance to prove it has changed for the better and perhaps, in time to be treated as a friend.
Should Brad trust something that was instrumental in the death of people he loved and respected? His doubts were addressed when the software delivered the evidence that he could not obtained himself which helped a client wins his fight against a corrupt organisation. Brad decides to take a chance and names his new colleague Otaku after the popular Japanese expression for nerd.
