Dr. Etch Shaheen, MD

Dr. Etch, as he is known to many of his patients and colleagues, is an emergency physician dedicated to improving the well-being of his patients and the public. He left high school early to attend the University of California at Berkeley, before completing his college education and earning a BA degree in economics from the University of Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center, a Level I trauma center. He has practiced emergency medicine for over 20 years, seen close to 100,000 patients and has held numerous leadership positions locally, statewide and nationally. He has been a champion of Telemedicine long before it was widely accepted and was the first physician to provide Tele-Emergency Medicine care in the state of Louisiana in 2015. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, he provided Telemedicine services to patients in numerous states and refused to charge a single patient for his professional services. During the COVID-19 Crisis, his expertise was sought after by physicians, physician groups and government agencies throughout the United States. He speaks to groups nationally regarding Telehealth, healthcare and COVID-19, and has served as the National Chair of the Telehealth Section for the American College of Emergency Physicians. Introduction

While working on the next book in the COVID-19 Series: COVID-19: Consequences & Perspective, I was contacted by a reader of my first COVID-19 book called COVID-19 Lockdown: Unreported Truths & Perspective. The reader suggested that a simple reference booklet would help many in the public. She reported that my book is full of lots of valuable information but suggested that a simple, short reference would be helpful to those who don’t want to read a lot but prefer short simple answers to common questions that many may have or that would easily understand why the precautions are necessary. Being someone interested in helping others, respecting my readers’ input, and reflecting on the matter, I decided to follow the suggestion of my readers. This booklet will provide some guidance based on what experts have said and answer some questions that many may have that can help you understand why experts recommend or suggest the things they do. There is a simple Quick Reference that one can look at and immediately get the basic guidance on what we should do, followed by questions and answers that provide more insight, background, and important bits of
