Prologue
Some (20) years ago when I started teaching EFL, I did not have a clear spectrum of the field. I knew about some workshops and seminars offered by publishers. There was no training at the places where I was teaching. I knew just a few colleagues; my network was colleagues teaching at the same place.
After let’s say two or three year of my debut as a teacher I learnt about TA (Teachers’ Associations) I immediately registered and got involved. I discovered I was not alone; I started networking and attending events.
At these events I heard about Professional Development for EFL teachers. I discovered that PD comes in different shapes and forms. All of them aimed to equipped, train, inform, and help teachers to improve their praxis. In this publication I share a part of my PD. I really enjoy reading and writing a lot. So, I decided to write and share with fellow teachers my ideas, opinions, and thoughts. I will give a brief description of why I wrote each of the articles, and indicate where and when it was published.
Introduction
Article 1: There is this prestigious private university in my country (Mexico) they publish the journal, Pharus Academiae, twice a year. The journal publishes articles mainly in Spanish; in fact I have not seen any other article in English. The reviewers are bilingual, so the policy says they accept articles in both languages. The article is part one of the essays I crafted while studying a MA. in ELT back in 2013. The article may be appealing for those interested in ESL/EFL methods.
Article 2: In February 2000 I had the opportunity to attend an extraordinary convention organized by British Council Mexico. There I met Peter Medgyes. His talk about NNEST captured my attention, I never heard about it before. It gave me a sense of belonging to the profession. I learnt that NNEST are valuable teachers. While working at a Technological University, in 2013, I was asked to write an essay in order to fulfill for the teaching position, I decided to write about NNEST and the topic of pronunciation. Later in 2015 the magazine Humanizing Language Teaching accepted my submission to publish it.
Article 3: Concepts of Grammar: Understanding Changes in a More Dynamic ELT Classroom, a bit long title and a complex topic for me. Also part of the MA. in ELT. During part of that semester grammar was the issue. The essay was later published by Pharus Academiae and reprinted by Humanising Language Teaching. I gain knowledge about grammar by reading books
