WHAT WAS THE FOREST KINGDOM OF BENIN?

The kingdom of Benin existed in an area of West Africa. It lasted from about 900 CE until 1897. Benin was one of the most powerful kingdoms in the region.

The kingdom of Benin was based around Benin City, and its citizens were a people called the Edo. Benin City is now part of a large country called Nigeria. The Edo still live in the same territory there.
