NAUGHT BUT THOUGHT
COMPANIONED
NAUGHT BUT THOUGHT
Walk the fields and leafy lanes
Naught but thought companioned
No time or mind to distance coursed
Eclipse all sounds distracting.
Wander the conscious or subconscious.
Transcend earth’s confining realm
Reach out to space and time
Plumb the deepest oceans
Enjoy earth’s beauteous mask.
Marvel the liberating transcendentalism.
Emancipate the imprisoned soul
Reflect upon life’s sanctuaries
So, too, the constant platitudes
From the mouths of principled.
Discover more about self and reality.
Question, doubt and contemplate
In the realm of unrestricted thought
Silently with your companion
Try to make sense of it all.
Naught but thought

Am I the policeman of just cause
the authority that governs the world?
Not I
Am I the gate-keeper responsible for humanity
the controller of good or evil?
Not I
Am I the conduit out of desolation
the key-holder to human frailty and universal understanding?
Not I
Am I the superior, grotesquely inadequate
adjudicator of peace or self-destruction?
Not I
Am I set apart from other earthly life forms
the controller of the world’s most infinitely
complex brain?
Not I
Am I an empty shell in the image of my maker

Weep not for your mistakes
or cry for yourself
Reflect on your failures
Have courage to look within.
Throughout your life, sinister
forces pushed and pulled
Steering you along impulsive paths
ingrained with hurt and pain.
Since birth and every passing day
Self-centered shadows loom
Massaging the misdemeanours
of the egotistical sybarite.
Admit the vital truths about
