I used to think that after going to enough auditions, that eventually I would stop being nervous. What a load of shit that turned out to be.

I stood back stage, fingering the little card they gave me with my number, waiting for them to call me out. My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking no matter how many calming breaths I took.

My obsession with theater started early in life, but it wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I found my true calling – erotic performance theater. It’s amazing. It’s like porn, but it’s also like a ballet. I’ve had a couple of bit parts in performances, and once I was an understudy but didn’t get to actually be in front of an audience.

Normally, I could take it in stride when I didn’t get the parts I wanted. There was a lot of competition, particularly among the other gay men. I’d get myself a drink, mope around for an evening, have angry rejection sex with my boyfriend, and then get back out there the next day.

But this audition was different. With this one, if I didn’t get it, I’d be absolutely devastated.

They opened up erotic performance theater to kinks about a year ago, and it had taken them this long to get around to mine: noose play. There was a lot of red tape and legalities they had to square up before they could let people hang themselves on stage, but it was finally time.
