The New World

September 18 th , 1945.

It all happened so quick. The war is over. Yesterday, they dropped a bomb on Washington. The Nazis. How did they do it? One report says, It was like a thousand suns. Everyone who lived there, dead. The President, Vice President, Speaker of the House. They were all dead.

I walked over to the radio where my wife was sitting. I could hear the broadcaster come over. The report contained the following"

Victory through the nation as Americans are greeted

by their German liberators. Patton shakes hands with

Goering and a new treaty is signed. This treaty states

that all land from the East Coast through the east Rockies

are now under Reich liberation, with Chicago being the capital.

Everything west, belongs to our greatest ally, the Japanese.

The Italians have agreed to dissolve into the Reich after the death

of Mussolini.

Heil Hitler!

Along with Washington being bombed, they also bombed New York, Boston, and Miami. Four bombs! How so many?

We were stunned.

We lost, my wife Helen asks.

Before I could say anything, I heard a knock at the door. When I opened it, a man in a military uniform was standing in front of me. I look at his arm and noticed the armband that was present.

May I help you?, I asked.

Are First Lieutenant Joseph Ryan?, the man replied.

Yes, I said.

My name is Lucas Whitcroft. I have been ordered to give you this.

Whitcroft hands me a note. The note read:

Dear 1LT Ryan,

Due to your high-rank in the U.S. Army, the Reich

is granting you the ability to be promoted to the rank of

Obergruppenfuhrer.

What’s happening, Helen asked.

I’ve been given an opportunity, I replied.

She grabs the letter
