About this ebook
The poems in this collection are inspired by the poetry of science and by the poetry of love. The Science in the title refers mainly to the science of astronomy. What we have discovered and are discovering about the universe and everything. The science of nebulas, and galaxies, and solar systems, - the science of creation, you could say - this is where science comes closest to poetry. This is the science of contemplation and awe, and it is light years away from applied science, which has little of that sublime, quasi-divine beauty. The Love in the title refers to the Love of All Things. It may refer to the intimate love between two people, but it can also refer to the love of the or an environment, of a magic moment, to unrequited and unrequitable love, to a longing that cannot be contained within the boundaries of everyday physical reality. It also refers to the love that ignites political indignation and demands justice for the oppressed.
Most but not all of these poems have been written over the last twenty years, in this millennium, although a few of them date back to the 1970s and are included here mostly because I happened to come across them at the right moment. I have tried to include a wide range og poetic themes and forms and styles.
