The Abyss of Truth: A Journey of Eternity
()
About this ebook
Mixing prose, poetry, metaphor, parable and philosophy The Abyss of Truth takes you on the journey of Ashiata as he follows the longing in his heart for truth, freedom and self-discovery. After hearing a speech from the 'Mad Poet Sage' in the town, Ashiata embarks on a quest into the hills and deep into the depths of his own experience and Being. Here he dances with Life and Death, embraces the serpent's bite, encounters the feminine and masculine and comes face to face with innocence, emptiness, love, and finally . . . the Abyss.
The Abyss of Truth is a modern day parable symbolising the spiritual quest, the search for God, the search for truth, the call of the divine, the quest for eternal life, awakening and enlightenment. Whichever words we use, every era in human history has had its fascination with some eternal, indescribable truth. Follow Ashiata as he embarks on his own quest, frees himself of the crowd and heeds the inner call to discover the inexplicable horizon which feels so far and yet so utterly intimate.
Taken from Benjamin's direct experience the book is semi-autobiographical and highly metaphorical in nature. Inspired by Nietzche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra – and in places almost an ode and parody of that book – it similarly inspires spiritual passion and life-affirming longing. The ideas and experience which inform it, however, are often very different to Nietzsche's. The book arose directly from Benjamin's own experience and it sears with a life of its own.
This is a book to be read with a poet's heart, a seeker's mind and a lover's presence. A book for all those who feel pulled by that inner call, and for all those who wish to discover the truth of who they are free from the cacophony of wordly voices. This is a book of the beyond.

THE MAD POET SAGE
I
n the square outside the citadel in the centre of the city, a crowd gathered to hear the various speakers of the day orate. The sage known as the Mad Poet took to the pulpit and spoke thus:
"People, where are you now? The room full of mirrors lost in your own reflection? Meandering down the corridors of silver, characters of mind jumping out from every corner?
Is this where life happens? In the recesses of the mansion of the mind? Where never-ending reflections tell you lies of who you are? Is this what you have become? Sane and clever and jumping at every fleeting image?
This is the new sanity, the sanity of the mirror mind; the sanity of the images and not of the looker; the sanity that is synonymous with similarity, with sameness – the sameness of the images on the glass.
The sanity of conformity, following and control.
But sameness and conformity are symptoms of pathology. Pathology; following – the following of a path.
But tell me people, why follow a path that is the result of myriad reflections when what is reflected is right where you stand?
Shatter the walls of glass till no images are left. Stand naked in your house and greet the guest of madness, for this madness is real sanity. This madness that stands alone, that stalks the gardens of the mansion and dances among the flowers while you stand fully clothed in your hallway of mirrors; yes, this is real sanity.
This madness know no pathology, this madness follows no paths.
This madness is far from the fleeting reflections that whirl you around like machines. And for what? A kiss in the mirror? A shadowy summons from the king of silhouettes?
Don’t give up your glory to a thief in the night of the mind.
If all the fleets of ships from all the worlds descend upon your shore, stand, and say, "you are but fleeting! You pass by like ghost ships, translucent in the mist of
