About this ebook

The desperado is Big Jim Stafford who no man has ever faced up to and lived to tell about it. In fact it was once told to him by an Apache Shaman that no man could ever kill him. That may be true, but the Shaman never said anything about a woman.

The following text is a work of fiction. All the characters, places, organizations, objects, and many events portrayed in this story are products of the author’s imagination.

The following text is dedicated to one of my favorite performers: Mr. Jim Stafford. You are no doubt one hell of a guitar player.

Historical Note: During the late 19th century in the American West; women who plied the trade of prostitution were often politely referred to as soiled doves.

Prolog: Arizona Territory 1880: Just outside Tucson: on a Wednesday

Edward Lantry was once a fine upstanding man who had worked both as a ranch hand and silver miner. He was a Christian man who provided well for his wife and child. All that changed when his wife died of typhoid fever eight years ago. Every man and woman has a breaking point and Edward had reached his. As a severely broken man he could not even care for his ten year old daughter.

Many members of the local community along with the local clergy had come forward to offer their assistance. All their efforts came to no avail. Edward was merely a shell of his former self. Eventually all members of the local community gave up hope of Edward becoming the man that he once was, however he was still in many of their thoughts and prayers.
