    About the Author

    Lucy-Anne and the Elephant

Lucy-Anne got up and went out into the garden. At the bottom of the garden she could see a large grey blanket hanging on the line. As she went closer she could see it was a peculiar blanket. It had an eye and it wasn’t on the line. It had four thick, sturdy legs, and a trunk and tusks.

Because I didn’t know, said Lucy-Anne. Now, I think it’s time you left.

Isn’t there anything to eat in this garden? said the elephant. Flowers, flowers and more flowers. I can’t live on those.

We didn’t know you were coming.

The elephant grew angry and charged around, knocking down the washing-line, the swing and the shed.

Stop it, stop it, stop it! shouted Lucy-Anne. Haven’t you any manners?

    I’m hungry, said the elephant.

If you sit down, I’ll fetch you some food, but please get off the rose bed.

    The elephant got off.

    "Now, behave yourself and I’ll
