    CHAPTER 1

    A Midnight Visitor

The year was 2929. Midnight approached, and the elderly janitor was locking up the research center and laboratory facility for the night. All the lights and equipment had been turned off, and he was about to turn the key in the door and head out when he thought for certain he had heard a noise. He was in the main DNA research building, where the scientists did mostly experiments to find cures. However, the security was very tight, and he was unsure of how anyone could have possibly gotten in after dark, especially with the high technically advanced cameras, and programmed android security guards.

Although I’m only here to clean until midnight, and after everyone goes home, it’s still my job to lock up, and make sure the place is safe.

He decided to make a last minute check around the perimeter and see if anything was missing, if so, he would report it in the morning at the front desk. He turned the light switch back on and began to investigate. Looking around, as far as he could see, nothing was missing. But then, he noticed a drawer was open.

I thought they kept those locked? he wondered silently to himself.

His heart was pounding as he quietly rummaged through the file cabinet, to see what the crooks had taken. A file from 2216 on successful human cloning was gone, and also several small samples of old hair and skin DNA. These however were from patients that were long dead, and had been for centuries. Something wasn’t quite right here.

What would a crook want with centuries worth of old DNA and files?

Before he could think any further, he was gagged with a damp rag and blindfolded. He couldn't scream or yell out for help, because unconsciousness soon overtook him. Around three o'clock in the morning, the janitor woke up. He was chained to a chair in a closet. It was dark, but he could see his equipment for cleaning. The heavy metal chains were eerily glowing, and he’d never witnessed such a thing before. As he observed the odd chains around his wrists and ankles, the door to the janitorial closet creaked open.

He saw no one, but felt a cool breeze fly past him. Suddenly, there was a loud noise, almost as loud as a firework, but somewhat muffled and the man was gone, he had disappeared.

Security suddenly came running into the lab along with the local police, who had said they received calls from several individuals in the nearest neighborhood who had been reporting lights on in the lab and loud noises.

The person, or thing for that matter, that had robbed the research facility, was gone, but had left vital evidence: their weapon.

What is that? a security officer asked as she glanced down at the large, menacing steel weapon on the ground.

Several police darted onto the premises moments after security arrived. The county sheriff following behind seconds later. Overhearing the android, they scanned the weapon.

A vaporizer, it can kill someone in seconds by taking their state of being, and vaporizing them into thin air. Almost like they never existed. We’ve never had the scientific ability to create such a thing, nor have we ever wanted to, the police chief answered. Makes the criminals’ work easy and our jobs much more difficult.

What was stolen? a detective asked that had come along with the squad. Looks like some sort of article on human cloning is missing, and a couple samples of DNA, the security robot said as he looked through the open drawer.

Who would have that kind of technology, sir? The military?

The chief didn’t answer at first. Finally, he responded, I don't believe so, but they are definitely going to want to check this out. Be sure to keep this to yourselves and as far away from the media as possible. We don't want any rumors to start.

They all nodded in agreement, however after all his years of experience, the sheriff knew the event seemed to be foreshadowing something far more worrisome.

    CHAPTER 2

    Long, Gone and Doomed

The burglar, or whatever the humans had called him, was already halfway to his destination of home.

I'm no ‘burglar’, he scoffed aloud. A small light blinked on the dashboard of his vehicle. He was receiving a call.

    Yes, captain? he answered.

Lieutenant, have you retrieved what I asked of you? a recognizable voice came over the speaker.

    Yes, sir, he replied.

Good, bring the ship around when you get here, and we will send the samples and file off to the lab.

The lieutenant nodded, and then there was a small click as the captain hung up the call. With a small sigh of relief, he went back to navigating his ship, because in a few minutes he would reach his destination.

    CHAPTER 3

    Invasion

The lieutenant skillfully landed the aircraft on his home planet, Dzspino, which was several million light years away from earth. The planet was relatively small compared to earth similar in its terrain. Apart from the few large industrial areas, it was mainly composed of forests and small bodies of water.

The captain greeted him as he stepped out of the ship with the retrieved files, outdated paperwork and old samples, Mission successful?

Yes, he nodded and handed over his supplies. The captain walked out of the military hangar
