When a ghost from Leon’s past comes back for revenge, the women in his household show John, Leon and Calderone, they can step up and protect them and themselves as good as any man can.
Prologue
Running footsteps could be heard coming closer as Georgio Damonico took the tiny child from his grandmother’s arms. As he looked down at his son, Georgio’s heart melted. The boy looked a great deal like him, yet he could see traces of his Gabriella in his son's face as well. Georgio looked up at his own mother and sister Gianna and asked, His mother?
Isabella Damonico shook her head. Her father wouldn’t allow more than a midwife in her room and she had complications that required a doctor. He told her that this was the cost of her sin. When the baby was born, he wouldn’t even look at him. He just passed him to me and said,
It is done."
Gabriella is dead?
Georgio was devastated. With tears in his eyes, he looked down at his son again. He leaned over the child and kissed his forehead. Handing the baby back to his mother he said, Name him Antonio after his grandfather, and guard this child well Mama. I’ve made some mistakes and more. So for that, I have to face the music for what I did. I had no choice in it though, I really didn’t. Give him a good life because God knows, I won’t be here to do it myself. But god willing, I will finally be with his mother in heaven or hell.
They heard the footsteps coming. Georgio leaned over to his mother and brushed his lips on her forehead, then he did the same to his younger sister. Goodbye Mama, goodbye Gianna, please raise my son well and tell him his mother and I loved him the best way we could.
Then he turned and ran down the alley.
His mother and sister backed into the shadows. As four men ran past them, the old woman wept soundlessly. For her son whom she loved unconditionally and for the life he should have had. Mistakes were made and what he did for the sake of a woman he loved had come back to bite him hard.
A few minutes later, the sound of four gunshots was heard and the old lady jerked at the sounds.
Her daughter stood beside her as tears streamed down her cheeks as well. Mama, why?
she whispered brokenly.
Sometimes the world can be cruel,
she whispered back. Isabella knew her son was dead now. She looked down at the angel face of her grandson. She made a vow she would raise this child to get her revenge for his father. She looked up at Gianna and gave her a nod. It is done. We will raise his son and one day, he will stand in his father’s shoes.
Against not only the child's grandfather but against the man who ordered his father's death. Leon Vincinti.
One day, they would feel her pain, one day...
Chapter One
Three months before Leon’s Wedding day...
John came into the main room of the Vincinti mansion. It was empty. This in itself was unusual now. Since all the women lived here and the dogs, it had been livelier than all the years he’d held this job. Now though, it reminded him of before. Quiet mostly. Before the women came, the Vincinti men traveled some and even if not, they liked the dining room to have their meals, then they would head off to use their offices.
Tonight, the family had gone out to dinner. Plans were being made for Leon and Evelyn’s wedding. The house had been bustling with activity all week. It had been a wonderful distraction. Leon getting married and Calderone as well. He never would have thought these two men would have brides. They did find their happiness.
John knew both men could be ruthless if called for. Hell, he could be too. But working for them had been an honor as they were good men inside. Family meant everything to them. Now, the family has gotten bigger. For John though, one of the new additions to the Vincinti family, was fast becoming a problem he couldn’t seem to solve. He again shook the thought away. He shouldn’t go there. He wouldn’t.
He headed down the hall to the security room to check on the cameras. It was his job to make sure the estate remained safe even if the family was away.
He thought to go with them tonight but sent two of his best men instead, to protect Leon and Calderone’s family. He hated to admit it, but the only reason he’d done it was Meena. He didn’t think he could watch her all dressed up and not want to tear the damn dress from her. She’d been here for a month and he had it bad for her. Yes, when alone, he would admit it. The girl had gotten under his skin.
Every time he had thought he’d put a distance between them, there she would be standing close to him, her scent intoxicating. It was all just temptation he’d told himself for the last month since she’d arrived. Just the fact that she was taboo. Off limits. It had to be. She was his boss’ daughter for Christ’s sake. He could not bed her. But try as he might, he could not stop thinking about her either.
When he got up every morning, it was... I wonder what she will be wearing today? What she will be doing. When he went to bed, he would toss and turn. Imagining how she would taste, how she would fit into his arms. He would then sit up and go take a cold shower. Often, he had to take care of his hardon himself to be able to even sleep, lately.
Opening the door to the security room, Tony turned and stared at him. Boss?
John nodded at him. Just checking to see if there have been any breaches.
His security man shook his head. The family left a half hour ago and there has been no activity.
Ok. Text me if there’s activity.
Boss?
He paused at the door and turned to look at Tony.
Is there something going on?
Tony wanted to know.
No.
He closed the door. He sure as hell couldn’t tell his man that he had the hots for Leon’s daughter and was too agitated to even sleep now could he? He felt antsy. But it wasn’t a security breach that made him feel like this. He now wondered if he should just resign his post. He paused in front of his door. Over a woman? He took a deep breath. Not just any woman. He’d had more than a few in his life and they were all memorable until Meena came into his life, now, he couldn’t remember the other women he’d bedded at all.
He opened his door and went in. Halting, he stared at his bed. What the hell are you doing?
he asked.
Meena was in his bed, the sheet pulled up past her chest. I’m taking care of this problem,
she replied.
He simply stood by his door. What?
She smiled at him. Look... I know you want me and I want you too.
He shut and locked the door then walked over to stand on the other side of the bed, furthest away from her. Aren’t you supposed to be out with your family at dinner?
I pleaded a headache,
she told him.
Sighing, he pushed his fingers through his hair.
I love it when you do that,
she said.
He stared at her. What?
Your body gets all tense and then you look so damn sexy...
She bit at her lip. John, I can’t do it anymore.
Do it any...
He shook his head. I don’t understand any of this.
She rose up, the sheet falling away to reveal her full, plump breasts. Stop lying! To yourself and to me.
He stared at her breasts and licked his lips. God, they were even more beautiful than he’d imagined. Rosy pink nipples and so damned delicious looking too.
See?
She pointed out to him. You do want me.
He let out a sigh. Yes, I do but that doesn’t matter. I can’t have you.
He turned his back to her and sat down on the bed in defeat.
Why John? I mean we are adults.
He shook his head. I—
She pressed herself up against him and placed her lips to his ear. "Have me...Just once. Then maybe we can both move on. Like people always say get it out of our system?"
John froze as her warm breath made his skin tingle and his cock went hard. You think if we do, then it will just go away?
Maybe...
So here it was. If he did what he wanted to do, he may not have a job tomorrow. If he didn’t bed her, he might go insane and have to resign his post.
He stood up.
Meena sat very still on the bed, waiting for him to decide.
Finally, he turned and looked down at her. Her creamy skin nearly gleamed. He then spotted a scar above her left breast. A nasty one, he stepped closer.
