SOLGUN YÜZÜ HAYATIN
güzdür / yeryüzü solgun ışıklarla gelir
geceler ayrılık taşır yanında
babanın gidişi anımsanır uzaklara
yataklar biraz daha soğur yıldızlar üşür.
güzdür / pencerenin ardından gözlenir hayat
kuşlar sürü sürü yolcudur göklerde
sular çekilir derinlere uykudadır toprak
şiirden romana yolculuktur düşlerin derinliği.
güzdür / yıldırımlar düşer ovalara
çoban çocuklardır yitiveren sürülerin ardında
insan kabuğuna çekilir anılara yaslanarak
hüzzam şarkılar demlenir iklimler değişirken.
güzdür / doğayı uykuya götüren zaman
binlerce çiçeği eker düşlerimize
bahara sefer eyleyen gökyüzüdür isyanımıza tanık
mevsimlerin çınladığı fotoğraftır önümüzde.
PALE FACE OF LİFE
Ahmet Özer, Turkey
Translated by Hilal Karahan, Turkey
it is the autumn / the earth comes with pale lights
the nights carry separation with them
father’s going is recalled far away
the beds get colder, the stars feel chilly.
it is the autumn / life is observed behind the window
they travel into the sky, a bevy of birds
the water is withdrawn to deeps, the earth sleeps
it is a journey from poetry to novel, the depth of dreams.
it is the autumn / it bombards the plains with
thunderbolts
they are the shepherd boys disappearing behind the droves
man leaning to memories withdraws into solitude
huzzam¹ songs brew while the climates change.
it is the autumn / time, leading nature to sleep,
plants thousands of flowers into our dreams
the sky is the witness to our rebellion in this
expedition to the spring
in front of us, there is a photo in which seasons are ringing
¹ Huzzam Makamı (from the Arabic word مقام) is a system of melody types used in Arabic, Persian and Turkish classical music. It provides a complex set of rules for composing and performance.

HALLOWEEN
Spre noiembrie - întâi,
Lume multă, agitată.
Într-un val de bucurie
E Canada prinsă toată.
Vălmăşaguri de culori
Zi de zi şi sărbătoare;
Halloween-u-i nebunie
Pentru mic şi pentru mare.
Peste tot, Dracula-n frunte.
Măşti din lumea cu strigoi,
Cu stafii şi cu vedenii
Ce-şi arată dinţii goi.
Zarvă, zarvă şi iar zarvă
Cete de copii, coloane:
Bat la uşi şi bat la porţi
Primesc fructe şi bomboane.
... Simt colindul de la noi
Pe sub marile căciuli.
Lumea asta este plină
De poveşti... cimilituri...
HALLOWEEN
Alexandru Cetățeanu, (Romania, Canada)
Translated by Muguraș Maria Vnuck,
(Romania, U.S.A.)
By November, the first day,
Lots of people, hug in cheer
Canada, from far and wide,
In excitement and in joy
In a chaos of mixed colors
Day by day and holiday,
Halloween is giddiness
Both for grown-ups and for kids
Dracula is everywhere,
Masks from phantoms’ other world,
Great variety of ghosts
Now display their large fangs.
A great hubbub goes around,
Groups of children everywhere
Knock at doors and knock at gates
Being offered fruits and cakes
I can feel the Christmas carols
Coming out from huge fur caps
’Cause this world is being packed
With all sorts of tales and riddles
