About this ebook

The war has escalated and disaster is coming. The only hope for their species is to send the babies to a planet called Earth. They have twenty-five years to rebuild and heal before the babies, now adults, take their magnificent forms. Earthlings would not understand this phenomenon and the destruction to follow could be catastrophic.

As the team leader of a group of elite soldiers guarding the prince, Kallum Draak shouldered the burden of taking children away from their parents and transporting them to a faraway land before the poisons could invade their systems. He fought to survive those long, agonizing years when many gave up. Now the time has come to claim his mate.

Brise Lowney can’t complain. Life consists of work and spending time with his best friend. Sure, he has a funky design of a dragon on his arm and he receives a cryptic note on his birthday every year. Things are fine, right? Except the latest note says that he will meet the mysterious writer tomorrow. Life isn’t what it seems and is about to change.

Warning: Gay erotic romance. The material in this book contains explicit sexual content that is intended for mature audiences only. All characters involved are adults capable of consent, are over the age of eighteen, and are willing participants.

    Prologue

Six tentacle-like arms wrapped Kallum Draak in their death grip. He tried to free himself, but the creature held him tight. Slime dripped its way down his shoulder and searing torture bubbled through his flesh. The rancid acid in the goo disintegrated the material of his uniform and left black, charred skin in its wake.

Kallum screamed in pain and frustration. As an elite Kazar soldier and head of the guard to the prince, he would leave no fellow soldier behind, but in his effort to drag a wounded warrior to safety one of the hated Zenithian had managed to ensnare him.

Blinding light rays flickered through the thick haze of smoke surrounding Kallum. Battle cries echoed off the wide walls of the dark tunnel they were invading followed by screeches of agony.

Kallum struggled to expand his chest enough to grab a breath of air and fumbled to reach the laser strapped to his utility belt. The edges of his vision grayed and he gritted his teeth as the hated enemy tightened its stranglehold. He needed that laser. One press of the button and the gray, sticky tentacles of the putrid, despicable being would drop to the floor. Once he was free, Kallum would enjoy separating the Zenithian’s spongy head from its body.

    Duck!

Kallum tipped his head down, leaned forward, and took as much of the caterpillar-like body’s weight as he could handle. He closed his eyes, but still, a blink of white light penetrated his lids followed by a hollow pop.

The squeezing pressure of death’s embrace vanished and wet warmth gushed over Kallum. Thank goodness the Zenithian hadn’t activated another round of acid in his saliva before he was destroyed or Kallum would be in a world of hurt. He wiped the green blood and chunks of brain matter off his face, and shook the dead body off his back. Damn, he wished this war would end. Five years of battle over a weed was long enough.

Kallum peered through the gloom and spotted his friend, Kristive. The soldier grinned, blew on the end of his laser, and saluted Kallum.

You’re welcome, Kristive called out, before turning to confront another Zenithian.

Kallum smiled. His friend may have a hair-trigger temper and a cocky attitude, but his heart was as good as gold.

The hair on Kallum’s arms stood up and prickles danced along the back of his neck. He dropped to a crouch just as a dinner plate size circle of spinning laser light sliced through the air where his head had been. Kallum snarled. Time to up the ante on these bastards.

He tipped his head and activated the tiny device implanted near his ear. All elite guards were equipped with the multi-purpose piece of technology.

    Incoming, Kallum yelled.

He yanked out a small red ball of soft plastic from a pocket of his utility belt. He tossed the volatile piece of explosive down the tunnel and into the throng of Zenithians moving toward them.

Kallum rushed over to his injured soldier, grabbed him around the chest and dove toward the farthest wall away from the upcoming explosion. They hit the ground hard. Kallum gritted his teeth and endured the shock to his already battered two-legged form. He shoved young Jaykan against the wall and covered him with his body in an effort to protect him from the blast.

Fierce heat rushed over Kallum with burning nips to his exposed skin. The ground shook and rubble rained down, pelting him with their sharp edges.

    Thank you, sir, Jaykan whispered.

Kallum turned his attention to the difficulty of getting Jaykan to safety. The massive effort to rescue their king and queen was taking its toll on his squad. If they didn’t defeat these Zenithians soon, he’d have to call in a second team to help transfer their sorry asses out of this hellhole. Kallum hated Zenith and wished he was back on his own planet.

In his ear he heard Kristive say, One more puffball and I think we can reach the royals.

Do it, Kallum ordered before addressing Jaykan. How bad are you injured?

Leg, hip, and arm, sir, Jaykan answered.

    Incoming!

Kallum ducked his head and gritted his teeth through the next explosion. As the dust cleared, he scanned the area. His men were dispatching the remaining Zenithians with quick, efficient movements.

Wait for MedTech, Kallum told Jaykan. They’ll take care of you while the rest of us go after the king and queen.

Kallum spotted at least three soldiers lying motionless among dead Zenithians and the debris of rock material jarred loose by the bombs. Damn this war. Kallum stood and activated his transmitter.

    MedTech, are you ready?

Yes, sir. Our team is awaiting your orders.

The coast is clear. Get in here.

Kallum started down deeper into the tunnel. He suppressed a shiver as the cold dampness of the passageway seeped through the protection of his uniform. The remaining members of his squad fell in behind Kallum as he made his way toward the end of the tunnel. According to his information, they should be near the solid metal wall sealing off this shaft. If the fates decided to give Kallum a gift they would find their king and queen behind that barrier.

As they approached the wall, Kristive commented, This would suck if the Zenithians are on to us and have escaped with the Royals.

The prince has units guarding all the exits to the surface. Kallum stopped and studied the metal standing between him and the goal of this mission. If they’re not here, we’ll start searching the other tunnels. Now get us through this thing.

Kristive rubbed his hands together, I love it when a mission gets fun.

You love anything that blows up, burns, or disintegrates, Teek observed.

Kallum couldn’t argue with that comment. Kristive liked nothing better than destroying things. He watched Kristive remove a length of rope and a black piece of plastic from his utility belt. The man shook the specialized plastic their scientists had invented and it opened into a large suction cup. After securing the cup to the middle of the wall, Kristive attached the rope to a loop imbedded in the cup and threw the end of the rope to a couple of soldiers.

Make sure you keep pressure on that rope, Kristive ordered. I don’t want the wall falling forward.

Kristive removed a solid, waxy, square from his belt. With a flip of his fingers, he produced one of the many knives Kallum knew were hidden in various places on his body. Besides explosives, the man loved his blades and carried at least four at all times. Seconds later Kristive had peeled the outer wax coating from the
