    Love Remembered - Angello Adrien

    Atlantis, 12000 Years ago.

The two lovers looked down at the destructive chaos below as they stood outside on the temple’s balcony surrounded by a protective shield. The city of Atlantis was falling, enveloped in flames. The very elements themselves had turned against the Atlanteans.

Kimon, I can’t hold the shield for much longer, Pallus spoke softly; his white priestly robes blackened from smoke, the raging flames, and falling debris. They’d helped many survivors into safety, others, like him and Pallus, choose to remain in the city despite the tragedy that lay before them. To abandon their homeland, their birthplace, was just madness.

Pallus gasped as the sea rose around the city. His soldier spirit had seen many battles but none this destructive. The need to flee rang loud in his ears, but the firm grip of Kimon’s hands gave him the courage to stay. They looked at each other, smiling lovingly, as the dying cries of the people were deafened by the roaring sounds of the sea surrounding them.

Kimon brought Pallus close to him as the shield dissolved.

We will see each other again. Won’t we, my love? Kimon managed.

Yes, we will, Pallus replied softly, his eyes shimmering with tears.

As they closed their eyes, the waters engulfed them; and the great city of Atlantis descended into the blue depths of the sea.

Pollyon slowly woke up from the same strange dream he’d had so many times before. Glimpses of fire, death, and a man whose gaze was full of love; beautiful eyes shimmering with tears. He looked around, trying to get his bearings. Minutes later, still unable to tolerate the light of the sun, he winced and shook his head. His sight was fading much faster than he was ready for. Soon, he would be completely blind. It wasn’t something he or anyone would have wanted, nor asked for, but it was the will of the gods.

Reaching for his walking stick, he eased out of bed and made way his toward the bath chamber. The water of the large bath appeared calm to the surface, as the aroma of exotic spices filled the room. The square pit took up most of the room it stood in. He undressed and slowly edged down the steps into the depths of the bath, sighing with delight as the lukewarm water relaxed his body. He closed his eyes and was rooted in his thoughts on all that had been going on in the city lately. The Ptolemaic families were at war, and now, Roman barbarians were in Alexandria. This Caesar! Who did think he was? A god! Wanting Egypt to pay its debts. Egypt didn’t own Rome anything!

Soft footsteps made him open his eyes to find Moteb, one of the priests, walking toward the bath.

Ah! Pollyon, I thought I might find you here, he said.

Hello, Moteb. Not impressed that his solitude was disturbed, though there were few private, quiet times anymore.

    Moteb gave
