Chapter 1:
It was a long, weary day for him as he fidgeted with his hands. There wasn’t a lot of movement in his hands, but he felt as though they moved on their own, and he wasn’t even able to stop them.
He looked out the window and shivered a little as a gust of cold wind signaled that winter was about to set in. The weatherman had predicted a harsh weather ahead for the residents of Seattle, but the man who sat with a hopeless look in his eyes couldn’t care less.
It had been years since he’d lost his will to live. No matter what the doctors said, it always felt like a lie, and no matter how much his family sympathized with him, he couldn’t feel anything but contempt. He couldn’t stand pity, but he received nothing but pity. It drove him insane because he had always been a workaholic, but after the accident, it would be a feat just to find something to do.
The accident brought back vivid memories to him. Although those memories sliced through his heart painfully, he derived a sadistic pleasure by hurting himself. He couldn’t explain it – hell, he didn’t want to explain it – but strangely, he felt better whenever he hurt himself. The accident had taken everything away from him in an instant. It was a miracle that he was alive, but apart from the fact that he was still breathing, he only felt useless.
The psychologist thought that he needed time, and his mother believed that he’d get better miraculously one day, but he instinctively knew better. Deep down his heart, he knew that he would always remain a cripple who was stuck in his wheelchair. Even if he somehow managed to brave everything he faced and stay alive, he would still remain a handicap – a word he hated from the bottom of his heart. He was sick of the whispers he’d hear whenever he ventured out with his nurse, and even though he had mastered the art of ignoring them, he couldn’t quite bring himself to look into anybody’s eyes.
And now, he had even reached a point of hurting people deliberately. He thought about his harsh words – the ones that could slice through anyone’s heart. He thought about how her eyes filled with tears as soon as he had uttered those words. He didn’t want to be that person anymore. He didn’t want to be reduced to a sadistic person who hurt others because of his agony. He didn’t want to face her anymore.
He had always blamed himself for the
